Alarmed residents in Islington, London, UK, have highlighted a truly disturbing habit of local CCTV camera operators - spying into homes.
A CCTV camera on a 70 foot pole has been found staring directly into the bedrooms of residents, which is raising awareness of the Orwellian Big Brother State that has become Great Britain.
Resident Jessamy Corbett is concerned the camera is being used to spy into the family home.
She said: “We have a right to absolute privacy in our own homes. I’ve no issue with CCTV. But I do have an issue about it looking into my bedroom. We want it taken away and put where there’s no potential to intrude.”
Another concerned resident, butcher Maurice Wood, said: “Our shop is celebrating its centenary next year. But currently I don’t feel very much in the party mood. I’m all in favour of CCTV for the deterrence of crime but there is nothing more unnerving and distressing than having a camera aimed at your home.
“My daughter has even had the camera pointing towards her bedroom.”
Islington Council are considering a proposal by MP Emily Thornberry to have the offending camera relocated.

If you got arrested for doing that, you could try plead that it's an invasion of privacy.

Those sattelite spys, cameras in the sky you wouldn't know if you where being watched!

reading this has reminded me of something i saw years ago, when i was staying in edinburgh, around '96, a friend and i went out one day to count as many cameras as we could, i really wasn't aware of all the implications, but it seemed like a good idea at the time.
we were walking down rose street, from the station side, and had already counted a whole bunch of them, when we spotted one that was obviously meant to be watching the service entrance of one of the shops there, except it was pointed a full 180 degrees around, looking at some buildings down queen street (i think) side, even then that struck me as strange.
having said that, if i had to watch those screens all day, i can't say i wouldn't be tempted to swivel the thing around and watch people all day.

Its strange you never meet anyone who mans these things, its not like down the pub theres that bloke that is a CCTV operator, you never hear of them at all so whos manning these things and do they have to sign a non disclosure?

Once in a town centre and almost exactly where the CCTV man was watching, my stedaughters purse was stolen form her bag, (yep it was her own fault it was accessible) so we immediately popped in and stood there incredulous (I hope I got that right) whilst they told us the CCTV cameras were not for public use, and that they could not 'go back' and see who had been responsible for 'lifting' the purse !!!

Item 2, The CCTV in my area is only (again ONLY) used when our beloved MP (you know I am being sarcastic now) is in town doing his 'surgery'

Item 3, in one case of victimisation and discrimination, a man that was apparently a police informer and had all the support he needed from them, was allowed to CCTV a bedroom of a teenage girl opposite his home !

In case you wondered ALL his evidence was disregarded as it was sooooooooo easy to prove that his integrity was zero. And a few local bobbies had red faces also.

I agree, this is outrageous:mad:

I like your 'tree felling' comment, just picturing people with axes hacking into CCTV poles!:D

Yes who??? Never seen this kind of Job advertised at the Job Centre.
Maybe they seek the employees, those involved in security or military. Never met anyone who works at a camera making factory either, or anyone who installs hem.

On the News we we're all told the CCTV is to watch out for crime to protect us from criminals. This story proves that is not the case and the real reason for CCTV will become more apparent in the future when they (Big Brother) wan't to track down and spot the dissenters.

funny that, i used to live in a busy town centre pub and the doormans radios were all on the same frequency as the rest of the pubs/ clubs and the CCTV operators, on a weekend they would help out, tracking trouble causers that leave the pubs and directing the police. but anyway they always seemed slow to respond and at one time of year the town had a flower show and because of it there were no CCTV operators due to the county council budget, but yet they were manned on week days/ nights 24/7 when there was no trouble, also we were told that they were originally installed to make to older people feel safer and they wernt put there for the pubs/ clubs use.

This gets me bitter and twisted for sure!

We live (suvive) on what I call the Eastern Block, opposite a bunch of really run down flats where people are crammed in like sardines in a can.

The police sprayed a circle with arrows, three-way, on the ground by my house and sent us letters saying they are going to put CCTV there.

There's no-way I am going to stand for some nonce watching every move my family and I make in our garden. These cameras can see right in to my childs bedroom too.

So off I went to a local police meeting to give them my views on the matter.

After stating my case publicly, the police then went on to tell me not to worry because there's a device that, as the camera pans past my house, makes it automatically blank my house out.

It was utter bollocks and gibberish. Then another copper jumped in, to bail the inspector out, with "the swivel knuckle will stop the camera turning fully so it wont in fact get your house."

Yeah right, like I was born yesterday!

There was a couple there who wanted their house on CCTV 24-7 so the police could see they were safe from the kids playing football in the road. The woman nearly had a heart attack when I had my say!

Bunch of morons.

I have this on film and will post it shortly

I admit CCTV does have it's place in shopping areas, carparks etc. but not in peoples' gardens and houses.

This has got to stop!

Well said dondaz, the police usually leave the door open for their own reaons so that criminal activity can be stopped, you just gotta find the crack, to stop this shit from happening.

Do it, you know its right, This is a another classic case of discrimination against everyone, Fight discrimination with the law if you have to!

good on ya man.

They can even see what I'm typing just as I'm typing it, and they don't need a cctv for that. They can even use your monitor or TV set to see what you are doing. Those micro processors in your TV are on all the time.

bloody hell! first I heard was about the digital TV boxes (scientific Atlanta brand) I think, which connects to broadband computer too. I don't know if I'm remembering right, but they may have a minature built in camera. ( Any electrical wiazrds here? could put this to a test and try locate the cameras or mic) they are watchng you watching tv, as well as most new computers have a built in mic!

My grandmother used to say years ago about bog standard terrestrial TV she thought the people on the Tv could watch us. A premonition or she knew more than she could say.
