I need to shift a few stone. I work shifts, sometimes not getting home until 10pm, night shifts and very early starts. I don't have access to any gym equipment and don't have time to go running or walking. I also have three young children, 3, 4 and 5 years old. As a result I dont have or dont seem to have any spare time to do anything to accelerate my weight loss. I'm not expecting some sort of miracle solution but from my situation the only way I can see of losing weight is by controlling my diet very strictly, this very quickly becomes boring and repetitive. Does anyone have any ideas or eating suggestions. I'm stuck at the moment and cant seem to lose anymore weight.

change your job or go part time:)

live to work not work to live:)something like that i think it goes, basically do not let work rule your life and freedom.

I certainly don't work to live, believe me. I do however, enjoy my job, which a lot of people don't. It's not so much the job thats the problem, more a combination of circumstances that rob me of spare time. And the way things are at the moment I couldn't afford to go part time, although I might wait for all the kids to be in school full time before that happens ;)

Do they work though? I remember someone saying once that they were a kind of hit and miss affair and they would only work if you convinced yourself they would. Do they work along the same lines as NLP? Or is that a load of bollocks?

Hi,

I used to be pretty obese and started putting on a lot of weight especially on my thighs and bottom in my late thirties. I started exercising as often as possible and also cut down on a lot of high calorie stuff. Unfortunately I hardly managed to lose much weight at all. I then recently read an article by a lady who claimed that she managed to lose nearly half of her weight using a particular weight loss supplement. I tried it out and it actually worked quite well. Within 4 months I managed to lose about 65 pounds. The results were pretty amazing and I feel so much healthier and energetic now. You can read more about the lady's article at

hey stomach.

well i don't know what your work schedule is like, but imo the best ways to lose weight are:

1. yoga
2. some form of martial art- like kung fu or karate (i practice kyokushin karate, have been since school and it's made my body very taut)
3. swimming
4. cycling
5. brisk walking/jogging- early in the morning, before you go to work. this would be the simplest option for you if you follow a very hectic schedule.
6. dancing
7. playing a sport (i play basketball; again, it's made me fit and it's fun too ;))

tbh, i'm not into gyms- i find them incredibly boring. exercising in wide open spaces and the outdoors do it for me, but if you're cool with gymming go for it.

as for diet- again, stay off fad diets, at any cost. don't deplete your body of anything, just because it has complex carbs or fat. have everything in moderation, even cheese, chocolate and whipped cream- i've always had a sweet tooth and hog on desserts every week, but i make sure i exercise too. just a small tip though- if you're a non vegetarian cut down on red meat, if you eat it often; stick to fish and chicken, and make sure you consume a plant based, high fibre diet with grains, pulses, fruits and legumes.

trust me, you'll never want to eat junk again.

I swear by Coconut Oil, and Cha-de-Bugre and Sea Kelp. I am a natural 'roundy' and I am sure that if this is your body type, you should definitely avoid all refined carbohydrates and also potato's (keep all carbs for occasional treats)if you want to keep the weight off. Stick to loads of veg, fruit, nuts & seeds, and fish and dairy - if you eat these. Have pulses in moderation, unless they are sprouted.

I used to be very large, and found that this is the way to go. You also need to do some form of exercise, strength traing is good, cause more muscle mass will speed up your metabolism. I can't be bothered to do this so I got an electronic muscle stimulator and use it while I'm on my PC, it's wicked!

Cardio is also important, but go for Fart-leg training (speed play) do it for 20 to 30 mins. Running with sprinting mixed in, just mix it up, this will increase your metabolism and will prevent you from burning off that muscle. If you do your cardio for too long, your body canibalises the muscle and that's not good for naturally heavier types.

Martial arts, especially contact ones such as Kick-boxing, Ju-Jitsu or even Judo will burn loads of fat and tone you up, plus it's a top buzz!

All this works, I can absolutely vouch for that, I will never be waif-like, but if I didn't follow this I would end up like Jabba the Hut! :D

I think timing is everything when it comes to loosing weight. Eat like a King for breakfast, a Prince for lunch and a pauper for dinner.

Also; a swim in the morning and a ten minute jog an hour after your main meal helps.

Oh and the whole exercise more and eat less - and when you do eat - raw veg and fruit and less red meat seems to be a secret most of these "Closer" and "real" magazines need to get a scoop on!

Hi, I'd cut one bad thing out of your diet each week - like a chocolate/candy bar, name it [no snickers] keep that up and then potato chips [have a no list] and pick a new one each week substitute it with your favorite fruit et cetera.
If your body craves it - it can only mean 1 of 2 things - you're either addicted to it, i.e: salt or sugar.
Or your body needs it and that will be a healthy choice. I have an organic lemon a day squeezed into a litre of water, this is a natural diuretic. Green tea is also good and has antioxidents too. :)

Thanks for your replies everyone. There are a lot of comments about martial arts and I did in fact do karate for about 10 years and I was in pretty good shape at the time. However due to work and moving house, having kids, I had to stop going, what I didn't do was cut down on the amount I was eating. oops.

I have about six days ago, stopped eating sweets, chocolate, crisps and red meat, and went out and bought a ton of fruit and veg. In just that short time its amazing how much better I feel, the bloated feeling has gone, that horrible clogged with food feeling has vanished. I'm determined to keep this up as I weighed myself this morning and was 19'8

And thanks Marpat, I will put down the fork :D[/I]

I was listening to zig ziglar the other day and he suggests that no food should be off-limits. Just say to yourself you will choose to eat a packet of crisps on a sunday afternoon etc. I think it's great that you have got all that fruit and veg in. I really believe a lot of people who are depressed can be cured by diet and excersise instead of pill-popping.

Just a little tip from me as you have had lots of great advice already

For a choc fix try dark choc 80% plus, you dont need much of it and a little bit is quite good for you so its a win win
