Hey
A couple of weeks ago I contacted Amnesty to ask what, if anything, they were doing about the compulsory UK ID card.
I received this reply:
Thank you for your recent email. Please note that Amnesty International works on specific human rights violations and does not take a position on whether or not the UK should introduce compulsory ID cards. We would suggest that you contact the organisation “Liberty” who has more information on this issue. Their website is:

It beggars belief. I've been an Amnesty member for years now, and have always had the greatest respect for their work, have donated money, written letters, etc etc. I'm sure I've read paragraphs in Amnesty literature condemning countries which use abusive means to bring about ID cards.
They've organised, in the past, a 'sleep march', saying we're 'sleepwalking' into a police state, re the 42 days without charge attempt. And yet - and yet - when it comes to actually taking a stand WHEN IT MATTERS, in the UK, what do they do? Nothing. They 'do not take a position.' What are they going to do when some of their members refuse the ID card, and possibly get sent to prison? Advise other members to WRITE to them? The irony is stunning.
What is the point of Amnesty, if they cannot, in the host country, take a stand on the human rights abuse and warning that is the compulsory ID card? The price of liberty is eternal vigilance. Just why are Amnesty turning a blind eye?
I was reading 'The Biggest Secret' and 'Tales from the Time Loop' over Christmas (I know I need to get a life ...) and noticed David saying that organisations like Oxfam, the Red Cross, and Amnesty, were just Illuminati fronts. Even six months ago, I'd have dismissed that as paranoid crap. Maybe not any longer.
Maybe some people here could contact Amnesty, asking them just why they will not 'take a position' on this issue?
Cheers
Miranda
