Just read this article from BBC News & thought it was rather interesting.

I've never understood the whole blanket ban on mobiles in hospitals, apart from forcing patients to pay the extortionate rates for the telephones by their beds. As long as the mobile is kept on silent/discreet then it's no different to talking to a visitor imo & should be allowed. Obviously in the very few specific areas where it can interfere with machines it's all well and good, but overall I don't think the ban is necessary & I'm glad they're finally thinking of lifting it.

Hospitals in England should allow a more liberal use of mobile phones where they do not interfere with equipment or privacy, the government has said.

The updated Department of Health guidance comes five years after technical experts said hospital-wide bans on mobile phones were not needed...
