You can expect a spate of sightings of "chinese lanterns" as they become more popular over here...they look real nice, ethereal, balls of fire floating slowly in the sky...if you didn't know what they were you'd definitely think "UFO!" Saw a few flyin over the Big Chill Festival last summer and again New Years Eve...lovely.

Chinese lanterns...

Nope, I've seen Chinese lanterns many a time and people do indeed mistake them for UFOs very often.

I've never, ever seen Chinese lanterns move like in the video in the opening post.

You just use the YouTube URL to embed them here btw.

Well, if that's not just jerky, unsteady hand movement in the opening video then yeah it is a most unusual sighting...
thanks for the URL advice, i'm not computer savvy, was wondering just how..
Peace...

I saw a small white dot moving across the sky today - i thought it was a balloon or something but was moving much to fast, wasn't a plane, it freaked me out - clear blue sky's - across london.

i went to get my camera but couldn't find it :-(

looks similar to the vid but in broad day light.

Ive seen several strange things in the sky ever since coming to this forum, Ive been encouraged to look up more!!!

Yesteday morning about 7am I saw an orange light in the sky, it had one flashing light and kept stopping every so often then moving on again, I did try to take a pic but it didnt turn out :(

Yes Da renn, chinese lanterns are quite amazing, only this summer at a surf competition we saw them being let them off and I said to my son I wonder how many would think they are UFO's ;)

Last summer I saw two orbs following each other, the sky was overcast, no stars, I shouted to my neighbour to have a look and the next day she said she thinks they are planes

Hi Wazzaap, Ive just watched your vid, I saw something just like that in August during a music festival.

I saw almost the exact same thing on new years eve, at about 22:30.
It was in the calne/chippenham area in wiltshire and was very similar to the video caught on tape in yorkshire, it was somewhat more orange, like a ball of fire. It definately wasn't a chinese lantern.

At first i thought it was a chinese lantern as when it first caught my eye it was fairly low in the sky, about as high as a large skyscraper. at first it was floating gently upwards like a chinese lantern/helium balloon, but it suddenly got faster and faster moving up into the sky at a rapid rate.

The higher it got the bigger and brighter it appeared to be and when it was a little higher than in the yorkshire video it started darting about, just like on that film.

There was a local news report of strange lights sometime later that evening, i don't know if they are related but here it is anyway.

The quality is too ropey to make anything out to be honest. What did it actually look like to your naked eye?

glad to see you are looking up more .I once stood with friends in a local high street broad daylight and shouted look while pointing straight up , no one looked everyone just kept on walking by .If there was a UFO then no one would of seen it :(. i reckon a lot of these sightings are Chinese lanterns you only have to watch how they behave , if they changed direction sharply or sped off at enormous speeds or straight up then we can discount the lantern theory .:D

Hi 2013, Ive got a funny story, a few years ago while walking home from a pub one night I thought I saw a UFO, it seemed to dart inbetween the clouds and I got so excited I shouted out hoping ppl would come out and look. Im so very glad they didnt as it turned out to be a laser from a nearby nightclub :o

Spot on with the lanterns there ;)

When Paul McCartney did a concert on the Liverpool dockfront there was a huge laser show , friends of mine where staying in my flat and this young hippy guy was stoned and thought that the aliens where invading as the clouds lit up he was in a right panic !! looked well impressive from where we where :D
