Hello, everyone.

There is a guy on this Forum who call himself "Space Monkey", he has a signature under every post which reads:

"GET DOWN WITH THE MOTHERFUCKING SICKNESS!"

This is a link to some goofy site...
So, right after I clicked on that link my computer was flooded with all sort of pop up messages about viruses...

And now I received a message which says that my computer is infected with a spyware.

It is possible that my password was stolen...

It's not space monkey's fault. It's the site that is plastered with dubious ads and popups. For example, ads like "Congratulations!!! You have won! You are the 9999999th visitor. Click here to claim your prize!!!!!" I don't know how many times I have been the 9999999th visitor. :D

Anders Lindman, I am not getting any "Congratulations!" messages.
Many pop ups have been block, but I received a message which said that YOUR COMPUTER IS INFECTED WITH A SPYWARE.

And it was NOT an advertisement.

December, the only thing that is going to deliver an unprompted message that your computer has spyware... is a link attempting to get you to infect your computer with spyware. Its a well known scam

Avast Antivirus is excellent. Since the URL can change i've linked you to the main page below. You'll be wanting the home edition. To say this performs as well as (and often surpasses), and looks better than any full price piece of corporate software, is an understatement. I've been championing Avast for the last few years to those all around me. It's good to see that, of late, this excellent product is getting the recognition it deserves.

Another highly recommended piece of free AntiVirus:

AVG. AVG might not look as pretty as Avast, but, arguably, it takes less system resources as well. There's no need to pay for antivirus as long as this kind of thing is around.

if you have latest virus scanners and systems patches you should be fine.... but whatever you do -- DO NOT click on any of those popup messages but use that "X" in upper right corner to terminate each popup window. anyone can script a popup (and they do) telling you that 'you have spyware' (even if you do not) and on whatever button you click (except "X" that is a built in windows function) they can make you computer infected. Simply, in a popup any button can be made to do what you do not want it to do. "No" can mean "yes" and any button in popup can be link to do same malicious act.
Like JW said -- this method is a well known SCAM to infect your PC.

This is how millions of PCs become infected, by their users not understanding that buttons in popup can look exactly as windows buttons and that beyond each button can be a trojan or spyware link.

if in doubt of what is going on with your popups you should kill the process(es) in task manager, so your IE or Mozilla would have no chance of infecting your PC.

if you do not how to invoke task manager just hit ctrl+alt+delete, then kill IE or other browser, or just an offending popup.

Hi Hew,

If you get any messages like that, then it's coming from another site you have recently visited and definitely not from this site. I can
guarantee that.
I'd recommend some spyware cleaners to get rid of anything that might be on your computer.

I have had this also but cant remember clicking on the link, and recently everytime I come on this site Iget a message off of windows messenger telling me they have to shut down for the safety of my computer,or words to that affect.
