Did anyone see Obama's spokesperson on tv this evening?
It was as vague as Obama's "change" platform.
basically said that Obama would make the Middle East situation a "priority" in his foreign policy, but gave ZERO detail.
The more you see and hear about Obama, the more it is revealed as meaningless "fluff"; all words, no substance.

Just had a thought... (it happens from to time).
Problem: Bush, for a multitude of reasons.
Reaction: Someone being demanded to replace Bush whose portrayed as no where close to Bush, even though that someone will probably be worse.
Solution: Obama! CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN! WHEEEEEEEE! OBAMAS GONNA PAY MY MORTGAGE AND BUY ME GAS!
The set up was perfect. I remember thinking that on election day. Relatively flawless set up.

A wee bit of a misinterpretation there buddy, I was saying wishful thinking coz we then would not have to think about all the "rumours"/"predictions" (martial law, bush stays in office etcetc) that could happen between now and Bush's Leaving. Sorry I shoulda been a lil more specific.
Yes you are right though it doesnt matter whose in office at all ever, I would hope that everyone on this forum knows that by now.

Obama may be silent now, but he has been very claer about his stance in the past ...
My position on Hamas is indistinguishable from the position of Hillary Clinton or John McCain. I said they are a terrorist organization and I’ve repeatedly condemned them. I’ve repeatedly said, and I mean what I say: since they are a terrorist organization, we should not be dealing with them until they recognize Israel, renounce terrorism, and abide by previous agreements.
... same bullshit, different face.
Where is the infamous "Change" that he promised?
What happened to his "I will sit down with anyone and everyone" promise, to advance diplomacy around the globe?

What is happening in the Middle East is unfortunate, but Obama is not the one to blame. If you want to be mad at anyone it is those who are currently perpetrating the cycle of violence, and the last time I checked that did not include Obama. He is the president-elect of the United States and NOT the world. As Ron Paul said, the US should mind its own business and stay out of the the business of other nations. If the Israelis and the Palestinians genuinely want to stop the violence and opt for peaceful co-existence, they have the power t do so and they will. At this point they do not seem to have the will to do so. There's nothing Obama or anyone else can do about it. Strange that most people here believe US presidents are puppets of a dark force, and yet when shit hits the fan, they go crying to these puppets to do something to make the situation better. We, of all people should know better than that!

Is he?
The POTUS is decided by the U.S Electoral College.
This process is clear;
Timeline
After the general election, the Governor of each State prepares seven original Certificates of Ascertainment listing the persons appointed as electors, and sends one original and two certified copies to the Federal Register.
* December 9, 2008 is the deadline for States to make final determinations of any controversies or contests as to the appointment of electors.
* On December 15, 2008, the electors meet in their State to select the President and Vice President of the United States. The electors sign, seal and certify packages of electoral votes and immediately send one set of votes to the President of the Senate (Richard B. Cheney) and two sets to the Archivist.
* December 24, 2008 is the deadline for receipt of electoral votes at NARA.
* The Archivist transmits copies of the Certificates of Ascertainment to Congress by January 3, 2009.
Certificates of Vote
Certificates of Vote are the documents that contain the elector's votes for president and vice president. While Federal law does not govern the general appearance of the Certificates, they must contain two distinct lists – one for President and one for Vice President.
The electors must execute six Certificates of Vote. Each of the six Certificates of Vote must be signed by all of the electors and a Certificate of Ascertainment must be attached to each of the Certificates of Vote.
The Certificates of Vote must list:
(The Certificates do not contain the names of persons who did not receive electoral votes.)
* all persons who received electoral votes for President and the number of electors who voted for each person.
* all persons who received votes for Vice President and the number of electors who voted for each person.
Finally, each of the six pairs of Certificates must be sealed and certified by the electors as containing the list of electoral votes of that State for President and Vice President. The Certificates are then sent to the designated Federal and State officials.
According to the U.S Electoral College, only 24 states have registered their Certificates of Vote ...
This information becomes available when the Federal Register Office receives the Certificates of Vote after the electors cast their votes on December 15, 2008.

So you think McCain still has a chance ? In any case if Obama (according to the process you've highlighted) is not even a president-elect, why should he not be silent re the carnage in the mid-east ? The point I'm making is that people should stop looking outside themselves for solutions to things they themselves have created. The Israelis and Palestinians have the POWER to end all animosities and choose a different path. No one has the right to force them into that path. Not even the yet-to-be president-elect Obama.

All I was doing was raising the strange fact that according to the official U.S Electoral College website, only 24 states have registered their Votes which means no candidate for POTUS has achieved (officially) the 270 vote requirement.

Obama is probably a pretty nice man, with good morals.
However, the US Government is not a single man, it is an institution and like all Institutions, it controls you, not the other way around.
Obama will go in with all sorts of cool ideas dancing through his head, and the day he takes office, reality will settle into his head that he can not do a damn thing, and that will be that. The official line will get toted and there we go.

so if he is not the president of the world,
Israel: Our Strongest Ally in the Middle East
That effort begins with a clear and strong commitment to the security of Israel: our strongest ally in the region and its only established democracy. That will always be my starting point.
And when we see all of the growing threats in the region: from Iran to Iraq to the resurgence of al-Qaeda to the reinvigoration of Hamas and Hezbollah, that loyalty and that friendship will guide me as we begin to lay the stones that will build the road that takes us from the current instability to lasting peace and security.
It won’t be easy. Some of those stones will be heavy and tough for the United States to carry. Others with be heavy and tough for Israel to carry. And even more will be difficult for the world. But together, we will begin again.
One of the heavy stones that currently rest at the United States’ feet is Iraq. Until we lift this burden from our foreign policy, we cannot rally the world to our values and vision.

Don't tell me you believe in what politicians promise during presidential campaigns. Peace in the middle east was NEVER for Obama to make promises on. Anyone who thinks that he can wave a magic wand and all the problems of the world will disappear needs to think again. He couldn't do that even if he genuinely wanted to, and I think most people here do not believe he does want to change things for the better.
Only Israel and the people of Palestine can resolve this crisis. The best that the new administration can do is withdraw all military aid to Israel. Perhaps that will draw them back to the negotiating table. If Ron Paul had been elected that is exactly what he would have pushed for. No more aid to a terrorist state. With no backing from the US Israel would seriously have to consider a peaceful resolution to the crisis. Still, it would be their choice to make.

I keep reading and hearing that Obama's policy about speaking out comes down to the phrase 'only one president at a time'. When people ask him to speak out about current situations this is the card he draws: 'Only one president at a time'
Well what the hell is that all about? Does he not know what to say? Is he just letting Bush and co. get away with whatever they can in these last weeks? Or is it just a big show..he wants to make a grand and dramatic entrance.
It makes no sense, I know that. Why not speak out?
