OK, if the entities that possess these highbreeds are in a dimension just outside our physical reality, who were the original entities who breeded with the humans? They would need to be physical beings, right? If that is the case then where are they now?

And why did they just go away? why did they not just stay here and run the show? people would be used to them by now as we are with every other species.

Maybe their 'race' is dying out because of all the interbreeding.
That is, if you believe the so called ''nephilim'' are like us in appearance, but they were evolutionary speaken further developed spiritually..
Maybe they are the hidden link, to give us their genes so we could evolve from a primitive state.

I have some good books that use the Book of Enoch as a source. It covers this sort of scenario, ie. the nephilim or watchers that live amongst humans and run the show, or in some cases help them.

That's right.
My feelings on this are:They used to hang around in BC times teaching us things and helping us after mankind was created / 'came of age'.
I always get the impression that God / the controlling creator force etc was busy elsewhere and left the day-to-day running of things on earth to Lucifer and the other Arch-angels.
But things went sour, familiarity often breeds contempt.
They are said to of took the local ladies for themselves, too much interferring with technology, inter-warfare between rival Watchers with human fighters. The main reason IMO was the fact that giants (Reptilians?) roamed about and ate the flesh of humans.
Cue big battle / flood 'That's it we're off' sorta deal.
The legacy of the elder-gods / 'dieties' olden times was then passed to the olden times high-priests and rulers to record and tell as they saw fit.
Of course this gets a bit distorted as there were plenty of radically different civilisations who changed and chopped the ancient times legends about.
They have pretty much left us alone now, but I feel that somehow there is unfinished business and they will return.
The early Roman times often made reference to gods amoungst man and being the 'sons of mars.'
Many of the ancient Greek legends seem to echo certain elements of the Book of Enoch.
Icarus' wings may of been a solar machine that couldn't take too much of the suns rays for example.
Prometheus stole fire from the gods to give to mortal man but was punished.
Prometheus / Adam possibly?
The Epic of Gilgamesh also is a gold mine of information on the olden times peoples and ways.
One passage in it makes a casual reference to one of the characters having trouble sleeping, his comrade asks him in question 'Did you hear a god flying past or something?'
Subtle things like this are revelations, put them all together and you have a very powerful set of gnosis :)

It would seem to make sense that the creators and first settlers on Earth came from Mars, if we take into account the simularities between the Giza/Cydonia pyramids. It would seem that one of the pyramids used to be made completely of red rock in testament to this.
