Great new truth film released today check it out, came across it by accident too:-
http://www.noliberties.com/index.htm
The shocking truth about the erosion of our fundamental civil liberties by Tony Blair's government will be exposed this summer in TAKING LIBERTIES, released in UK cinemas by Revolver Entertainment June 8th 2007.
Right to Protest, Right to Freedom of Speech. Right to Privacy. Right not to be detained without charge, Innocent Until Proven Guilty. Prohibition from Torture. TAKING LIBERTIES will reveal how these six central pillars of liberty have been systematically destroyed by New Labour, and the freedoms of the British people stolen from under their noses amidst a climate of fear created by the media and government itself.
TAKING LIBERTIES uncovers the stories the government don't want you to hear – so ridiculous you will laugh, so ultimately terrifying you will want to take action. Teenage sisters detained for 36 hours for a peaceful protest; an RAF war veteran arrested for wearing an anti-Bush and Blair T-shirt; an innocent man shot in a police raid; and a man held under house arrest for two years, after being found innocent in court. Ordinary law-abiding citizens being punished for exercising their 'rights' – rights that have been fought for over centuries, and which seem to have been extinguished in a decade.
Irreverent but revelatory, outrageous but true, TAKING LIBERTIES combines these real stories of liberty loss with never-seen-before footage, cheeky stunts and comment from Mark Thomas, leading politicians, celebrities, human rights organisations, academics and lawyers. Narration from Ashley Jensen (EXTRAS, UGLY BETTY); a pumping soundtrack with tracks by Oasis, Radiohead, Stranglers and Franz Ferdinand; and the presence of Kurt Engfehr, producer of FAHRENHEIT 9/11 and BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE add up to make TAKING LIBERTIES the most explosive and controversial film to hit screens this summer

Well done for posting it. I posted it on here a few days back but it was not cosmic enough for some of the people on here so the thread dropped like a stone. Anyway I have been having a bit of a discussion about it on this thread instead.

The bottom line is this could easily go big time. So far we have the Mail The Mirror and the Times as three massive circulation papers do reviews. All seem to like it so far and even the BBC have had it reviewed. The BBC naturally didn't like it but hey that is probably good publicity for most considering what they think is good. The Times + Mirror each gave 4 out of 5 stars in their ratings.

I'd consider that a grave insult if it was my work.

It's a numbers game. Like it or not the circulation of papers like the Sun and Mirror run into millions. The broadsheets are more in the 100's of thousands though their influence is greater. Now we have cracked the upper echelons of society right from the highest down to about the level of the Daily Mail which is somewhere in the lower middle class bracket. However the numbers that clock up on government surveys supporting it are the real dumb asses that don't even follow politics. This is a film for them, it's a bit of fun but with a serious message, and I remember having this discussion about making films on the NO2ID site a fair time ago.
What I said was exactly this, we have to appeal to everyday people in an accessible way that means something to them and to use emotion in order to communicate the message. It's like this film has taken a leaf right out of what was being talked about then, and you know what, it really does work. NO2ID have put it to work themselves and we are now reaching into this part of the population. Everything is working out just fine for us. I'm certain we have now reached that critical mass and it will take off with its own energy. People in this country are extremely angry with the government.

Put it this way, a sizeable chunk of their agenda depends on these cards. They might just have to cancel it.

saw this last saturday:excellent. Terrible review by Anthony Quinn in The Independent and there were only about 8 of us in the cinema- it was the earliest showing, 12:45 p.m- but as it was in the Centre of Birmingham (UK)- a City full of bloody students I'd have thought there might have been a more decent turn out ( see enough of ém when it's Rag Week).
Wrote to The Electric Cinema in Birmingham which has to show the more mainstream movies to survive but does also tend to show more independent fare and they have it on their programme for July. Also wrote to Showcase Cinemas, which is the biggest franchise chain in my area, and questioned why they had not shown it- or have it listed as a "comming soon" film- when their own website campions their approach to supporting local communities. Heard diddly squat back, of course.
Any way, good film IMO, particularly for those who are less aware of the freedoms being yanked away from them- could open a few eyes if it gets any play ( and it's worth it just to hear Tony Blair's 1995 speech on ID cards).

The trailer looks pretty good. I will certainly want to watch it. Looks like the closest thing to waking the 'masses' up.

I'd consider that a grave insult if it was my work.
Not at all, it means its right on target. We need everyone against it, not just the left or the right. So if both sides of the artificial divide give it the thumbs up then it will be a winner. The Daily Mail also gave it 4/5. Fair enough, I mean it's not got a multi-million budget to give it 100%. That will hopefully happen for the next one! Michael Moore made at least $20 million out of his film. Some serious dosh to fight the system with me thinks.

Thanks for the info. The DVD is due at the end of the Summer with lots of extras which is great because this isn't exactly getting widespread showings in UK cinemas.

I have not been able to see it and have since put in a complaint to my local cinema. It is unfortunate that a cinema with well over 10 screens can not provide a single evening showing during the week or weekend.
With family and work commitments I was extremely disappointed that I could not watch this film. I said in my complaint that it is a rare treat that something non-fictional is shown in a cinema and it should be available for everyone to watch even if it is only a single showing a night.
I wanted to see it and put my money to the film in the cinemas. thats what i wanted to do to show my support.
I will defo buy the DVD but i am really disappointed.

I saw this advertised a while back & really want to see it. But hey what a surprise!! I've just gone to look up the showings near me & guess what.... not showing at even our largest cinema - WTF!! Just goes to show that they really don't want the masses seeing stuff like this do they!!
So I'll have to wait for the dvd too...

I've just received this reply from the Odeon Cinema...
Thank you for your email.
Unfortunately the production company has only made a limited number of copies of the film available and therefore only a limited number of cinemas in each area can show the film.
We were unable to obtain a copy of the film for your local ODEON this week however we were successful in other areas of the country.
It may be showing at other cinemas in your area. To find out if it is still showing at another cinema in your area please try the Google Movies website (www.google.co.uk/movies).
To be kept up-to-date with films being released at ODEON please register for our weekly Cinemail service.
Yours
Odeon Guest Services
Is this true that production companies only provide a certain number of films or is it just a lame excuse? It seems a bit pointless to make a film & then not have copies available for viewing, doesn't that sort of defeat the object...???

Yeah I emailed my cinema to and just got a "will take into consideration" email back from them, of which nothing happened.
I watched Taking Liberties last night in Burnley, great piece that just needs a polish which there website says the dvd will be, with extras and no time constraints like they had on the big screen this will be out in October.
Nice put together pieces of Tony Blair's lies and bu;;sh.... and some footage of demonstrations which get ruined by the police that will probably get you pretty agitated as it did to me. Didn't know of these before.
A bit annoyed of the 30-40 people turn out though, not bad as in some places i read they only had 8 people in but while they watch there garbage tv, here is a film that is trying to make a better life for us and they blank it.
I hope the makers get enough revenue of the film and continue to make more films like this.
So if you've not seen it or missed it, wait for the dvd in October and give it some support.
