Just something to think about.
If you had a power of good in the world since time immemorial. It worked hard to improve the lot of humanity on this planet. It was so successful that those who were controlled by egos/selfish interests/who want power/etc decided that they had better corrupt it.
So millenia pass, it is attacked from outwith, and it is darkened from within by those with less than honourable intentions. As the centuries pass it becomes a wee bit lost and only a fragment of its true potential shines through.
Matters are made worse by those within not always be attuned to its core values. The darkness has silently and steadily pervaded corrupting the best of men.
The reuslt is that there is genuine concern about what its members do, for sometimes people do see them do things that are at odds with the claims. Muddled further by the claims often being contradictory across the globe.
The result relative impotence.
Perhaps the real conspiracy is not that said institution is bad, but that it has been made to look bad, and sometimes sadly inadvertently be bad, over millenia (or centuries or decades depending on your view on origins), and through darkness allowing some bad apples in the door which have infected. Not helped by the desire by some to carpet sweep and putting form over substance.
Perhaps the conspiracy feed is morely a deflection away from where the real darker forces lie?
