I am not an economist so this is very basic.

I am hearing that a weak pound would be good for manufacturs in the UK in regards to exports, making it seem Good for the economy as a whole

True, if our economy was manufacturing based but its not, our textile industry is in india, we have no real car industry. Nissan is struggling, sending workers home for long stretches off work as car sales plumbit...Our steel and coal industry have been gone a long time, our farmers have been given money not to grow anything and at the same time we gave away our national stockpile of food... we produce very little to export. What is more we got rid of our gold reserves, so we have not got enough gold to even reintroduce the gold standard.

of course one could say it will encourage growth in the manufacturing sector, sure if the banks were lending.

Either way you look at it we are screwed.

the Pound is F***ed, and the economy is F***ed

the economy has been F'ed for a long time.

I find it very interesting that there is a sudden massive increase in Sterling (and a sizeable jump in Dollar too) value right after the banking bail out. The end effect is that the money the taxpayers have "given" the banks and has no far more value now.

Surely they should be handing this increase back to the public finances? *hysterical laughter*

Everybody needs to calm down..

We don't need any more cars, so we stop building them - end of story. If the govt. wants to bail them out then who is going to stop them.

The economy was built on one big bubble so it cant go on forever. We need a new way of doing things, not just more of the same old.

Btitain after 11 years of Labour doesnt have many exports left.
So this Sterling devaluation is purely a demonstration that the UK is bankrupt.
How can the US economy exist on zero percent interest rates?
Nothing can exist at that level. Nobody lends at that level because it simply is not practical and nobody invests at that level either.
No savers and no borrowings.
Means stagflation.

This slash and burn that is going on is to speed up the NWO agenda, UK entry into the Euro.

I think The Eurozone is going to become the new economic power in the world. Britian will only "survive" by joining the euro. It will of course as the EU is the idea of the British.

OPEC are already accepting payment for oil in euro's

LOL! :D but you guys have near to non national industries left! The only thing you seem to be exporting lately are awful TV shows franchises like the idol series, x factor, big brother and millionaire...

BTW, when was last time you guys in here personally ‘exported’ anything?

One thing is for certain a weak pound won’t make things any better for the overwhelming majority of the populous.

All very true. We do export football hooliganism as well. And the state always finds new "farting out of turn" taxes to embezzle cash from the population.

I think not being able to afford imported electronic crap from China may be no bad thing, although more expensive clothes and food will obviously be more serious.

I thought the EU was the idea of Hitler (read it in one of Icke's books) and he wanted to call it the EEC (can't remember the German term for it).

Well, he wanted a united Europe all right, but I thought he wanted to call it Germany.

Yup... and political “policies” like social engineering and micro managing for example. Not to mention ”privatization”, that was tested, stamped, packed and exported globally, courtesy of puppet Thatcher...

The world is thankful for your many gifts! :(

No! of course no one is blaming the regular people.

Debatable. There were concentration camps in the Spanish-American War, some time before the Boer War.

Some historians argue that the Romans had a concentration camp of sorts too.
