Believe it or not this is very hard for me to do. Im really skinny and boney and would like to gain weight. The thing is im always eating and still cant gain any weight. You'll always see me eating something, i eat a lot out of boredom. Ive lived most of my younger years eating processed foods and sweets but still cant gain weight/fat. Does anyone recommend anything or any foods? My typical diet is mostly chicken, potatoes, beans, hemp, tuna and chinese food (aspartame yum). Also, im only after turning 20 so maybe i should just be glad of not being able to put on weight at this age because i asked my father about this and he was like me at my age and then when he got to the age of about 22 he turned in a big fat monster lol (he lost all that weight now thank god). Thanks for the help.

There could be various reasons why you're not gaining weight these could be.

1. Hyperthyroidism
2. Parasites
3. Adrenal Failure

1 and 3 are often related. Or quite simply you might just have an ultra fast metabolism which will slow down and you'll gain weight as you get older. I had massive problems with not being able to gain weight and mine were due to parasites! If you're always hungry these could be the problem.

1) Eat more

2) Move around less

Prior to around 24 I was skin and bone, despite eating like the proverbial horse. I'm 6' 3" and weighed around 11 stone.

After 24 I became a wobbly bellied mess and have since fluctuated anywhere between 13 to 20 stone! In the last couple of years I've managed to stay around 14 1/2 to 15 stone.

I wuldn't worry about it. Count your blessings in fact! :D

Cheese crackers with cheese.

Pork with extra crackling served with mashed creamy potatoes and buttered veg

Chips and cheese

Cheese and chips

Steak pie and chippy chip chips with deep fried onions in batter

Fillet steak with asparagus wrapped in parma ham with dauphinoise potatoes

Deep fried gorgonzola and pancetta spring rolls with red sweet onion marmalade and parmasan wafer buscuits (basically get chedder on saucer with chopped chives and black pepper and add parmasan and microwave it then scoop it off with a knife -makes very impressive home made buscuits - my own invention I may add!)

Crispy bacon (got to be streaky) with two eggs, sausage and buttered mushrooms and buttered toast.

"Bangers and mash" with yorkshire puddings and lots of gravy.

Carbonara

Three cheese lasagna

Bbq spare ribs x2

Fish and chips every other night

Pointers

When making creamy mash always deep fry the potato skins to put on top of them.

Only use full fat milk

Same with butter

Take a glass of milk with every meal apart from your dinner when it should be replaced with three glasses of red wine.

Only eat dinner after 9pm. If you find yourself hungry before then - snack snack snack. But not on Milky ways - marathon/snicker bars are better.
watch more television

Buy an SUV

Start buying your groceries online

Eat buscuits and cheesy straws

Have at least two packets of crisps per day

Treat chocolate like veg and have at least five portions every day.

If you have to eat veg- opt for cauliflour/brocolli with cheese sauce.

Encourage agoraphobic thoughts.

Good luck!!!

I would recommend starting (if you not already) a weight training and nutrition program. You should look into diet especially, to gain healthy mass, rather than just fat. I was in the same situation really I weighed 8 stone at 18 (being 5"9) but now (22) I've managed to maintain a healthy weight of 10 1/2 stone and I haven't been able to weight train in almost a year. With the right knowledge (nutritional and exercise) and some dedication theres no reson why you couldn't be a few stone heavier in a year,(of healthy mass and strength increase, in body and immune system also) When I train with weights I also notice a considerable increase in my mental focus and overall energy.

Anyway if you want links, PM me and I'll give you as much as I can.

You want to gain weight? Fat or Muscle?

Certain body types do these actions with different amounts of ease. To gain muscle you need to overload the muscle, eg. try lift more than you can so it has to rebuild bigger or stonger.

Google Stonglift 5x5 program and eat about 500 calories over your maintenance while getting 1g of portein for every pound in your body everyday. You want all your vits and minerals in fruit and veg and wholegrain carbs.
If you start getting chubby, start doing a small amount of cardio too.

Join menshealth.co.uk or just read around the nutrition and fitness and muscle sections.
Good luck! You'll love it when you get into it

Couscous - with goats milk
- thats what some Afrique women are fed to give them a full figured body. I however do not endorse it in anyway as in some cultures the bigger the woman the more superior she is.

Or get married - you will gain instantly lol!!:D

You have a normal metabolism for a young man - fast. Take advantage of it and learn to lift and eat. With your metabolism you could lift the way a powerlifter does and eat all the food you can see and you will get big, but not fat.

This might sound like a joke, but don't take it as one, start eating what sumo wrestlers eat!

well i Just found this which was pretty cool
1. Skip breakfast. By depriving their bodies of food after eight hours of sleep, their metabolic rates stay low.

2. Exercise on an empty stomach. If their bodies have
no food, their metabolic thermostats are turned down even lower to conserve fuel.

3. Take a nap after eating. The Sumo secret for gaining weight is that, after eating, they sleep for at least four hours.

4. Eat late in the day. Going to bed with full stomachs means that their bodies must respond to the huge flood of nutrients with a rush of insulin, forcing their bodies to store some of it in the cells as fat instead of in the muscles and organs as nutrients.

5. Always eat with others in a social atmosphere. According to leading researchers, a meal eaten with others can be at least 44 percent larger and with 30 percent more calories and fat.

Although sumo wrestlers do imbibe in greasy food, apparently, their weight gain has little to do with hamburgers but with soup! The mainstay of the sumo wrestler's diet is a substantial soupy stew called chankonabe, which - in the Nagasaki dialect - translates to "Chinese pot stew."

http://library.thinkquest.org/29486/chanko.html

I think i can safely say that the first entry on this site will be very delicious, preparing this dish will greatly impress your friends and family, nothing is better for a soup that home made chicken broth. Mabee home made fish broth.

If you want to eat that much soy regularly, eat a lot of organic apples. If you eat lots of sodium, eat tons of organic apples anyways!

if you want to gain muscle.. eat atleast a gram of protein for every lb you weigh in at. Take a large dose of protein before and after you exercise, as well as before you go to sleep.. You're muscles will recover faster during exercise, and they'll start repairing/building muscle right away. Stick with the chicken and tuna. Although red-meat will help you gain weight faster, it will mostly be fat, and it will drain your energy levels.

Try to eat 5 times a day. 3 main meals and 2 side meals high with protein.. And eat a snack before you go to bed too. You're still young so it may be hard to gain weight for another few years or so. I had the same problem, but recently I started eating like this and working out more. I've gained 15 lbs (mostly muscle) in 6 months just from eating right and doing pushups/pullups, and I also have a great stomach now!!

I've always had the same problem. I can eat like a horse and it has very little effect on my weight. It's most likely just your metabolism and nothing to be concerned about. I did all the thyroid tests etc. because I was convinced it was overactive but the tests all came back as negative.

Ironically what worked for me was taking up quite a grueling exercise program of swimming, followed by pumping some weights for a few hours 3-4 times a week and quenching my thirst with a few pints of Guiness afterwards. Don't bother chasing numbers on a set of scales just get yourself fit.

hi my story is pretty much the same as yours when i was in my late teens thru my 20's till about 26 i couldn't put weight on .My dad much the same as yours , basically we are all different and we cant change who we are weight wise so dont worry about it accept who you are .Wise words .Anyway i started doing weights and drinking those egg and milk protein shakes form body building /health food stores and i did put on a few stone eventually , but it turned to fat when i stopped working out
Anyway , years later i found it hard to lose weight i only weighed about 12 n half stone but felt too heavy at the time .When u get too heavy you will want the old slimmer you back . but try the milk shake weight gain , muscle gain drinks .If you do dairy milk and eggs are good for bulking up and loads of cakes puddings stodgey stuff . If you work out it will convert to energy rather than fat , but remember muscle weighs more than fat , so u might weigh more but not look it . :D

According to the nutritionist David Wolfe:

To gain weight eat a diet comprising 42% fats (this means nuts, seeds, avocados, olives; only raw plant fats), 42% green leafy vegetables (raw), and 16% sugars (meaning sweet fruits).

the percentage is dry weight of foods in the total daily diet.

If you have trouble gaining weight tryout the above diet and also start pumping iron.
