Putin says missile tests were response to NATO's actions

MOSCOW, May 31 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's president said Thursday his country's recent tests of new ballistic missiles and possible withdrawal from an arms control treaty are a direct response to harsh, unreasonable actions by NATO countries.

Speaking at a news conference after meeting with the Greek president in the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin said Russia did not initiate the new wave of an international arms race, and condemned the planned deployment of a U.S. missile shield in Europe, and the development of new military bases on the continent.

"There is no need to fear Russia's actions, they are not aggressive... They are aimed at maintaining balance in the world order, and are extremely important for maintaining peace and security globally," Putin said.

Russia conducted successful tests this week of a new ballistic missile with MIRV and a cruise missile allegedly capable of penetrating any operational and future missile defenses.

"We conducted a test of a new strategic ballistic missile with multiple warheads, and of a new cruise missile, and will continue to improve our resources," Putin said.

The president suggested recently that Moscow might suspend its obligations under the Conventional Forces in Europe Treaty if talks with NATO countries on its implementation show no visible progress.

No NATO members have yet ratified the re-drafted CFE pact, demanding that Russia first withdraw from Soviet-era bases in Georgia and Moldova under previous agreements.

Russia, concerned over Europe's refusal to ratify the re-drafted version of the accord, and acceptance by certain EU states of U.S. missile shield plans on the continent, proposed on Monday holding an emergency CFE conference in Vienna on June 12-15.

"We are fully observing the provisions of the [CFE] treaty and have pulled out all heavy weaponry from the European part of Russia. We have reduced our armed forces by 300,000 personnel in the past few years, but what about our partners?" Putin said.

"They are inundating eastern Europe with new weapons - a new base in Bulgaria, another base in Romania, a [missile interceptor] site in Poland, a radar in the Czech Republic," the president said. "What are we supposed to do? We cannot just observe all this and continue to keep our obligations under the treaty."

Putin also stressed that the United States unilaterally withdrew from the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty in 2002, paving the way to the deployment of its missile shield in Europe.

"Our American partners have left the ABM Treaty," he said. "We warned them then that we would take measures in response, to maintain the global strategic balance."

The U.S. plans to deploy a missile defense radar in the Czech Republic and 10 interceptor missiles in Poland as part of its European missile shield allegedly against "rogue" states, such as Iran and North Korea.

Since Washington announced the plans earlier this year, Russia has vehemently opposed the deployment, citing its own national security concerns. Some of Russia's top generals hinted that the bases, if opened, could be targeted by Russian missiles.

i find it a little uncanny the fact that some people have predicted this. yet no attempts to avoid the predictions have been made by officials.
its almost like the feel that they need to act it out and make it so.

much like many storys we are told. yet there seems to be a great LEAN towards making it happen becuase the idea is there. and theres nothing better as an alternative where they can still dominate and control

Russian President Putin is angered over the United States placing missile sites in Eastern Europe which will obviously be aimed at Russia. So, he is planning to aim nuclear weapons at various European cities as a response.

The entire episode is a ploy by the Windsors to stop Romanov entry into the war over Illuminati leadership. They have their hands full just fighting the Rothschilds and do not want another family involved.

The Russian Romanovs will be a formidable foe and should make the summer and beyond quite interesting, if not scary.

SEOUL, June 5 (RIA Novosti) - Russian military will make decisions necessary for the country's national defense, in response to U.S. plans to deploy elements of its missile shield in Central Europe, the Russian foreign minister said Tuesday.

Russia has responded angrily to U.S. plans, announced in January, to deploy interceptor missiles in Poland and a radar base in the Czech Republic to counter possible missiles attacks from rogue states such as Iran and North Korea.

"Everything that we have done and will do is based on our responsibility and the responsibility of the Russian government to do everything possible to avoid new threats that Russia may be subjected to," Sergei Lavrov said. "That is why military planners have the right to make decisions, which are necessary to defend the country."

Speaking Friday ahead of a summit of the Group of Eight leading industrialized nations, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the United States' mooted missile bases in Europe would be part of the U.S. nuclear arsenal and that Russia could be forced to aim its nuclear weapons at Europe.

"If part of the U.S.' strategic nuclear arsenal is located in Europe and our military experts find that it poses a threat to Russia, we will have to take appropriate retaliatory steps," he said "We will have new targets in Europe."

The Russian president is set to meet with U.S. President George W. Bush, along with other G8 leaders at Germany's Baltic resort of Heiligendamm, at the G8 summit from June 6 to 8.

Putin also said Washington's proposal to Russia to cooperate in the missile defense sphere was limited to Russia providing its missiles for target practice, which was an unreasonable offer.

"Our American partners want us to provide them with our missiles as targets, so that they can conduct exercises using our missiles. This is just brilliant. What a great idea they've thought up."

Russia already tested last week a new ballistic missile capable of carrying multiple nuclear warheads and a new cruise missile, saying the tests were part of Moscow's response to the U.S. anti-missile plans.

Tradition to lift children's clothing and kiss them? I doubt it. In fact I haven't found one source that confirms that it is tradition for a stranger to lift a child's clothing to kiss him on the stomach.

Kissing them on the belly with clothes on is OK, yes. I give all the kids I know kisses all up and down their arms and on the belly, on their toes, but the action of lifting a child's clothes to kiss them on the bare skin, ESPECIALLY if it's a stranger is weird. Can you not see this?

Perhaps it is a “Russian” thing, and we just aren’t aware of this peculiar custom, but the Western world’s collective head swiveled in shock when reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin defended his recent controversial kissing of a boy on the stomach as just “a spontaneous gesture of affection.”

Mr Putin came across Nikita, five, in the Kremlin last week, lifted up his T-shirt and suddenly kissed him.

"He seemed very independent and serious... I wanted to cuddle him like a kitten and it came out in this gesture. He seemed so nice," he said.

The kiss - shown on Russian television - triggered huge public interest.

"There is nothing behind it", Mr Putin told the BBC in a live webcast on Thursday, explaining that the encounter on 28 June was quite spontaneous.

Nikita was among a group of tourists visiting the Kremlin.

The kiss triggered intense speculation in the Russian and foreign media, with questions being raised about the president's motivation.

More than 11,000 people asked Mr Putin to explain what prompted his act during the webcast organised by the BBC and Russia's Yandex website.

Russia's Izvestia newspaper, which later found Nikita, reported that he had refused to wash after the kiss.

"I just liked him [Mr Putin] and he liked me very much. I want to be president myself," the boy was quoted by the daily as saying. According to the BBC report.

But I can't really comment unless I understood the russian medias take on the events. I'm going to get my friend who speaks Russian.

I do think tho, that it is dangerous to demonise any touching of children - especially because it alienates genuinely affectionate people, I've often felt uncomfortable about other peoples kids touching and hugging me when I shouldn't feel like that. Kids are affectionate little souls and they don't have the stigma or cynicism that we do. I would like to hear the parents opinions on this. Personally I wouldn't mind if someone kissed my sons belly, it depends on how they did it and whether my son was comfortable with it. Lots of people do it. I kiss my sons bum, and other people do that too - I know I'm his parent, I can do that.

But I think as a parent you tend to sense if something isn't right, if someone is a bit creepy - well speaking for myself I usually know if someone isn't quite right and I tend to keep my kids away. Theres a guy like that across the road I don't feel comfortable with. So it would be interesting to see the parents perspective, as long as their not too blinded by his stature to sense his intentions.

I mean has there been any rumours about Putin before? If there has then its worth looking into. But if not, then I tend to defend him for now anyway

Actually I don't even care about that picture...

Once the Russian missiles hit the cities in Poland, Check republic and UK (UK already has Trident missiles which target Russia) I don't think the guy who calls himself "King" or John White will be running around with that goofy picture trying to prove something...

The US connection

Trident is a US nuclear system. The US provides assistance to Britain with its nuclear programme under the 1958 US-UK Mutual Defence Agreement.

The UK Trident uses US Trident II D5 missiles, which are maintained and tested in the United States.
The UK Trident warhead is closely based on the US Trident W76 warhead and was tested at the US Nevada Test Site.
The UK maintains close links with the US nuclear weapons laboratories, on "stockpile stewardship", ie maintaining and developing nuclear warheads.

UK nuclear policy is closely synchronised with the US and NATO.
Although the Government claims that Trident is "independent", it is clear that the UK depends heavily on the US for nuclear assistance and that the US therefore has leverage over British foreign and defence policy.

Trident missiles
The UK has access to 58 missiles from the US pool of Trident II D5 missiles. British Trident Submarines collect the missiles from the US Trident base at Kings Bay, Georgia in the South-East of the United States. While the submarines are in the United States, they will usually test fire one or two missiles at the US Eastern Test Range, off the coast of Florida, where the US test fires its Trident missiles. The Trident missiles are maintained and serviced in the United States.

Trident warheads
The UK Trident warhead is closely based on the US Trident W76 warhead and was tested underground at the US nuclear test site in Nevada.

The UK works closely on design and maintenance of its nuclear warheads with the 3 main US nuclear weapons laboratories, Lawrence Livermore in California and Los Alamos and Sandia in New Mexico. Components for British nuclear weapons are transported by air and road between AWE Aldermaston and RAF Brize Norton in the UK and the US weapons laboratories for ongoing tests.

Under the terms of the agreement under which the US provided assistance with Trident to the UK, UK Trident submarines are assigned to NATO to be used for the "defence of the Alliance" except where the UK government "may decide that supreme national interests are at stake".

UK nuclear strategy and targeting is closely coordinated with the US through the NATO Nuclear Planning Group. NATO's nuclear posture, which is heavily influenced by the United States includes the option of using nuclear weapons first and the option to use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear countries.

As the Bush administration has moved towards a more aggressive nuclear posture, the UK and NATO are expected to fall into line. British Secretary of State for Defence Geoff Hoon MP has already indicated that like the US, the UK reserves “the right to use appropriate proportionate responses which might… in extreme circumstances include the use of nuclear weapons.”

You're right, we should love children as much as we can (just like we should love the elderly, the disabled, the poor, each other, animals, plants, etc), but, if you tune into the body language and look watch carefully....the placement of the hands.... the holding of the child when he attempts to leave...the hesitancy before lifting his shirt.....and then the very quick departure....

Now, tell me, would you feel OK if a stranger did this to your child? Especially if your child looked uncomfortable? The child is hardly interacting. It's clearly one sided, and it's wrong. I feel it with every fiber of my being.

I do trust your judgement. But, why do you think he would risk so much attention from it? You think he just couldn't help himself and it was a sort of accident, a slip up?

Tony Blair today recommended that Britain renew its Trident nuclear deterrent into at least the middle of the century, calling it "the ultimate insurance".
But the prime minister told MPs it would be possible to cut Britain's stockpile by 20%, leaving fewer than 160 operationally available warheads.

MOSCOW, May 31 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's president said Thursday his country's recent tests of new ballistic missiles and possible withdrawal from an arms control treaty are a direct response to harsh, unreasonable actions by NATO countries.

Speaking at a news conference after meeting with the Greek president in the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin said Russia did not initiate the new wave of an international arms race, and condemned the planned deployment of a U.S. missile shield in Europe, and the development of new military bases on the continent.

"There is no need to fear Russia's actions, they are not aggressive... They are aimed at maintaining balance in the world order, and are extremely important for maintaining peace and security globally," Putin said.

Russia conducted successful tests this week of a new ballistic missile with MIRV and a cruise missile allegedly capable of penetrating any operational and future missile defenses.

"We conducted a test of a new strategic ballistic missile with multiple warheads, and of a new cruise missile, and will continue to improve our resources," Putin said.

The president suggested recently that Moscow might suspend its obligations under the Conventional Forces in Europe Treaty if talks with NATO countries on its implementation show no visible progress.

No NATO members have yet ratified the re-drafted CFE pact, demanding that Russia first withdraw from Soviet-era bases in Georgia and Moldova under previous agreements.

Russia, concerned over Europe's refusal to ratify the re-drafted version of the accord, and acceptance by certain EU states of U.S. missile shield plans on the continent, proposed on Monday holding an emergency CFE conference in Vienna on June 12-15.

"We are fully observing the provisions of the [CFE] treaty and have pulled out all heavy weaponry from the European part of Russia. We have reduced our armed forces by 300,000 personnel in the past few years, but what about our partners?" Putin said.

"They are inundating eastern Europe with new weapons - a new base in Bulgaria, another base in Romania, a [missile interceptor] site in Poland, a radar in the Czech Republic," the president said. "What are we supposed to do? We cannot just observe all this and continue to keep our obligations under the treaty."

Putin also stressed that the United States unilaterally withdrew from the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty in 2002, paving the way to the deployment of its missile shield in Europe.

"Our American partners have left the ABM Treaty," he said. "We warned them then that we would take measures in response, to maintain the global strategic balance."

The U.S. plans to deploy a missile defense radar in the Czech Republic and 10 interceptor missiles in Poland as part of its European missile shield allegedly against "rogue" states, such as Iran and North Korea.

Since Washington announced the plans earlier this year, Russia has vehemently opposed the deployment, citing its own national security concerns. Some of Russia's top generals hinted that the bases, if opened, could be targeted by Russian missiles.

Just one more thing. If this was so normal, so customary and traditional, one wouldn't expect it to hit Russian TV channels. They wouldn't exclude other more relative footage, and isolate only this.

June 4 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. case for a missile defense shield to protect Europe from Iran is the ``joke of the year'' because Iranian weapons cannot reach the continent, said Ali Larijani, the country's chief nuclear negotiator.

Iran has no intention of attacking its most important commercial partner, the official Islamic Republic News Agency cited Larijani as saying yesterday.
``Iranian missiles do not reach Europe'' and it's hard to believe U.S. authorities don't know that, Larijani said, according to the report.

The U.S. plans to base interceptor missiles in Poland and a radar station in the Czech Republic as part of a system it says is necessary to defend against long-range missile attacks from countries such as Iran. Russia opposes the planned shield, saying it will threaten Russian security.
The issue has strained U.S.-Russian relations and last week the government in Moscow said it successfully tested a weapon it claimed was immune to all defense shields.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said last week the planned shield risked turning Europe into a ``powder keg.'' He dismissed American concerns that Iran could threaten the U.S. and Europe. Iranian missiles now have a maximum range of 1,100 miles (1,700 kilometers) and by 2012 they may have missiles with a range of 1,500 miles, too short to justify a missile shield, Putin said.

The U.S. and Iran severed diplomatic ties in 1979 after the taking of hostages at the U.S. embassy in the Iranian capital, Tehran. The U.S. is leading international efforts to increase sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program. The Bush administration is also demanding Iran stop arming Shiite militias in neighboring Iraq.
