A friend of mine who lives in Southampton has told me that over there they have lie detector technology that detects lies over the phone, for people putting in claims for Incapacity Benefit. It picks up signs of stress in the voice

I can speak the truth and still be stressful. So can you.

Have you noticed how lie-detectors are being sold to the public as glamourous in TV shows like Tricia?

Yes absolutely. It is on the Tricia show, on Jeremy Kyle, and on others. Along with DNA tests as well.

Yes this is very sick, lie detectors detect stress, not necessarily lies.

How many people are going to get wrongly convicted I would like to know :(

You can always depend on Jeremy "Bile" for sleaze, slave-labour ethics propaganda and Big Brother promotion.

Well, as long as you know that it cannot really tell if you are lying, that it is a "tool of intimidation"(j. edgar hoover), there is no reason to become stressed by it.

If u cant use a lie detector (polygraph) in court as defense as its not 100% reliable, how can u use a vocal one for prosecution????????

Yes, they've been using it for quite a while now.

It's absurd that they have faith in this stuff when polygraphs are inadmissible as evidence in British courts.

But isn't it interesting how they use this stuff on the poorest people in society but there are no "lie detectors" in Parliament? They'd have to set it so it only bleeps when they don't tell a lie!
