What do you guys make of Howard Marks?I always thought him to be a kind of rebel against the establishment.However..looking back to the height of his noteriaty and knowing what I know now about the secret services and there involment in the drugs trade it seems obvious he was involved with some shady characters in high places. For someone who was wanted by so many governments around the world to spend such a short time in prison, 7yrs I think is very odd indeed. The case against him when he got caught was defended by him saying he was working with secret services against terror organisations.Since his release he has published one book I know of ..Mr Nice which I read afew years ago and has held audiences and discussions at glastonbury and the like.As far as I know he now lives with his family in Mallorca, not bad for a man who moved tonnes of hash around the planet for years not that there's anything wrong with that:):)

Perhaps he started impacting on the income of the real global drug Lords and they decided he no longer served a purpose as a cog in their machinery?
You'll already know if you've read Howards book that he liked to have Welsh speakers only, at the highest levels, working for him. That's why the DEA et al nicknamed his outfit the Taffia.. :)
In the early nineties he could often be found beached inside a pleasant little cafe in San Antonio, during the day, where he was fond of regaling inquisitive passers-by with stories of his exploits in the old days.

I got the impression that they busted his ass to jail after finding out he was moonlighting & playing 'the game' on more than one side of the fence.

One of the first things he says in his book Mr Nice is about him being a compulsive liar. The sheep should have read that bit twice I think.
Looking at him from what we know now and the companies he used and those being the same ones Dr John Coleman says were 'the firm' if you like, then it leaves me in no doubt. AT & T comes to mind and another thing, that don at his college saying the real threat to the establishment were from the far left and that he was to spy on them. You have been lied to!

Yes, he always tells lies.

He’s an interesting character and an absolute legend. Hopefully I’ll come across him one day in my hometown. :)
