What is it? Why is it bad? Why could it be good? Why are they driving for it? Just a few questions I have to try and kick off this thread. Also, what is your personal opinion about it? Screw what anyone else has said about it, why do you think its good or bad?

Peace

What is it?The coming together of our world, most often used in the corporate world.

Why is it bad?It can reduce diversity which is not good for long term sustainability.

Why could it be good?It is the easiest way to get the people of this planet to find its their humanity - one people, one planet.

Why are they driving for it?Who do you mean by they?

what is your personal opinion about it? Screw what anyone else has said about it, why do you think its good or bad?It is good if managed well. But I do think that there needs to be greater recognition of the importance of diversity from a planetary perspective (as opposed to a short and medium term financial perspective). If managed badly it will be the seeds of our own destruction. eg many of our medicines come from the rainforest. Each year new medicines are found from plant extracts that are disappearing fast. So at some stage in the future our deforestation could be the primary cause of the extinction of the human race.

Added: This is something that I have thought about for many years now. One of the advantages of having an economics degree, a professional accountacy qualification, experience of multinationals, and having studied oceonography and environmental studies at university level as well is that various aspects of my life have touched upon these sort of issues from different perspectives.

In a nutshell, it is the centralization of power globally, resulting in power over an ever increasing amount of people residing in fewer hands.

The result of this being that policies can be easily implemented globally with little resistance as key decisions are made further away from the grass roots people that they affect, leaving them less able to influence things locally.

The evidence seems overwhelming with shifts in power to fewer people presenting grander opportunities for unaccountable fraud and other criminal activity.

Countries become interdependent resulting in a problem in one country having a knock on effect globally.

The lightening pace of new laws being introduced, including those that make it a crime to disagree with the global controllers will make criminals out of most of us. The definition of a terrorist has shifted to include anyone with views differing from central control.

The globalisation of the job market will mean that everyone is having to compete with immigrant labour which will drive down the wages. There are countless examples of this in England along with example of immigration providing little benefit to the economy. Also, the issue of the government allowing so much immigration without the associated infrastructure (housing) to cope with it contributing to higher house prices. This is the global race to the bottom, the only people who benefit are the huge corporations being able to reduce their wage bill.

There's few thoughts from me, I'm sure others could add to this.
