This book shows how Freud's first major theory was stonewalled by his peers. The author was granted access to the Freud family's collection of Freud's personal correspondences and found something remarkable. Freud initially believed that sexual abuse of daughters by their fathers caused hysteria in women. When he presented his theory to his peers he was greeted with stony silence. Only then did he change his idea to the Oedipal Complex, which explains sexual abuse memories as repressed desires on the part of the child. Highly recommended to those who wish to understand the foundation of the Psychological establishment.
