Have you heard about the Garamantes? I hadn't until today. They were an advanced (don't know the degree of their advancement) civilization living in around Sahara.

I was wondering if they're somehow connected to all the glass under Sahara, supposedly from an ancient atom bomb.
Maybe the Garamantes are the survivors of the bomb. Maybe they are the victors of the nuclear war. Maybe something else. Anybody have a clue?
