A radio presenter who called a Conservative councillor a "Nazi" and an "ignorant pig" has been sacked.

An investigation was launched after the remarks, made by Jon Gaunt on his Talksport radio show, generated "a number" of complaints from listeners.

During a show earlier this month, Gaunt was interviewing councillor Michael Stark about Redbridge Council's ban on smokers becoming foster parents.

Mr Stark defended the decision on the grounds that the welfare of young children should be put ahead of the needs of foster families.

But Gaunt, who was in care as a child, accused his interviewee of being a "Nazi" and an "ignorant pig".

A Talksport spokesman said: "Talksport terminated presenter Jon Gaunt's contract following an interview with Redbridge Council's Councillor Michael Stark on Friday, November 7."

He added: "The decision follows an internal Talksport investigation that was instigated following complaints about the content and nature of the broadcast.

"The radio station has apologised to the councillor for the manner in which the interview was conducted."

Not listened to him much only when visiting someone. But was in total agreement with his views that Shariah Law is evil and immigration will and is fucking up Britian. Blair is all for immigration and destroying British culture.

While I agree that John Gaunt can be a bit of a cunt (as expressed in several posts) and Right of Genghis Khan in some of his views. I do believe that he has every right to say what he said.

I do take issue with his presenting style, where he doesn’t allow free flow of opinion that doesn’t match his own, he talks over people and can be patronising and insulting. But I will say this for him, he did give people like Councillor Michael Stark a hard time about decisions they make. (Is Michael Stark a Common Purpose Grad I ask?)

This is just about censorship, and the fact that after the Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand situation the BBC are very nervy. The most worrying aspect is it would seem you cannot question politicians be they national or local without them taking "offence" of some kind. I couldn't stand John Gaunt but at least there was some opinions put forward on his show, it would seem we are soon to be denied any opinions, or indeed right to voice them. That was exactly my reaction when I heard about this. I tried to listen to Gaunt`s show a few times but hed to switch off because he was such a right-wing, ignorant, racist piece of shit.

However, if you can`t say what you want, when you want, to whom you want to say it to, then free speech is officially finished.

Like I said though I am EXTREMELY surprised that he was sacked because Gaunt was ALWAYS 100% behind New Labour and was ALWAYS pushing their agenda and was always bleating out their propaganda. I dont like Gaunt and that is putting it VERY mildly. But if he is gonna start telling the truth now then I am happy about that. Maybe he has awoken because the agenda affected HIM directly (he was in care as a kid and maybe his foster parents smoked ?), who knows :confused:
Maybe it has simply backfired on him and he is surprised as we all are ?
I think that it's more likely that this is all a stunt to bring in extreme censorship (ie "if they can ban Gaunt they can ban ANYONE ?").

Something similar happened in the US a few months ago. Don Imus was the name. I don't know much about him, but it was clearly a politically correct sacrifice.
