There is has long been a big issue raised over RFID being implanted into folks as part of an "ID" system in a cashless society....but they dont need it.

So long as our biometrics are on file its a simple matter to have everyone simply scan their thumbprint to show their identity (or iris if the advanced tech gets speedy enough) - RFID is superfluous (except as a tracking measure).

Si, I'm wondering, will the whole ID card debarkle be dropped in favour a thumbscan database?

Don't misunderstand RFID for the Microchip. They're different. According to DI, the microchip can send and receive signals, therefore giving whoever controls the computers that are connected to the microchips, the ability to control the behaviour of those with the implants. The RFID tag is simply just a small aerial that gives off a signal that satellites or computers can track for positioning purposes. Gillette have put them in some of their razors that are sold at tesco for "stock control purposes".

The microchip will - im guessing - be able to do both...
