So now everyone's admitting that there's going to be a major earthquake in the future. However, I don't think you can prepare for a big one other than to get the hell (no pun intended) out of there! So I think the point to this is so that officials/government can say they warned the public and that they tried to help etc.

The L.A. Earthquake: Get Ready Rally
Friday, November 14, 2008 | 4–9 pm
Nokia Plaza L.A. Live, Downtown Los Angeles
It’s our future: A major earthquake occurring along the southern San Andreas Fault. The question is not if it will happen—but when.
Join us in downtown Los Angeles for The L.A. Earthquake: Get Ready Rally, featuring earthquake preparedness information, presentations by state and city government leaders, vendors and live entertainment.
Fun, informative and entertaining, the rally is the culmination of the Great Southern California ShakeOut, a week-long series of events organized to help Southern Californians to get ready for the big earthquakes in our future.
Get ready—and have fun doing it!
