Ok, I have been watching bbc 2 but multi-tasking. I am sure I heard him talking about his gran who died. He was going on about How she couldn't vote because of her sex when she was born... then a little about they put men on the moon (snigger)- then he said something like "then yesterday she was able to put her finger to a monitor screen and vote.

Is this a bit of a faux pas by the script writers? Or did I get it wrong?

Update - I seriously think I am onto something here. He talked about the AGE of his gran - then the moon talk = then at the very end he said "so yesterday she was able to go out and put her finger to a touch screen".
It was aired around an hour ago on bbc 2 and I am trying to find an unedited version as I think it was perhaps videod BEFORE the gran died - otherwise - how could he say this???

It was a programme about Obama - not newsnight - just different clips of him but on bbc 2.

Thanks for that I will. In the meantime, if anyone videotapes bbc2 etc - try and look that up - It was strange as he was talking as if he was at that time president - hence the yesterday she was able to do this for me to become president type of thing.

Very strange ... I look forward to finding out the truth of this.

are you sure this program wasnt created before Obama won the election ? Before his grandmother died ?

The BBC usually Date Stamp their programs with roman numerals at the end of the program. If you could have got the Numerals it would have given us a clue :p

He wasn't talking about his grandmother, but one of his supporters that he met who was 106 years old. This should have been obvious for two reasons: 1) His grandmother was 86 when she died, not 106. 2) The woman he was referring to was black (which was his point in including it in his speech); his grandmother who died was white.

Obama's Kenya Grandmother Fetes Win as Africa Triumph (Update1)

By Eric Ombok
More Photos/Details

Nov. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Barack Obama's 87-year-old grandmother, Sarah Obama, and her family ran out of their house in the western Kenyan village of Nyang'oma-Kogelo and started dancing when they heard the news of his election as U.S. president.

She is already planning what to serve him when she next meets him as the leader of the free world: Asian-style bread, called chapati. It's his favorite, she said.

``I am so happy that I don't know if I will die of happiness,'' Sarah Obama told reporters at her homestead. ``It will not only change our lives but the whole of Kenya.''
