My Idea is as followed.

I am willing to code a program for windows systems that will contain a directory of some of the most imformative sites on the internet ranging form Forums to Video links. This program will have an internal browser which will be easy to navigate via extensive menus and a good looking GUI.

The main aim of the program is to create a collective place for freely distributable media and to create a simpler method for awakening those who are still asleep.

Only media that i have been given permission to add to the software will be included and the menus can be updated on a daily basis if the need arises.

This software would be free to distribute and host with my permission so long as the application and documentation were kept in its original form. A blog would be set up for Update reports, Change Logs and a place to download updates from.

If people wished for me to add some form of Proxy to the software for safe anonymous browsing i could look into implementing that feature.

At the moment i would just like to see what peoples thoughts are about my Idea so that if there is alot of interest i can get to work on designing and creating all aspects of this peice of software.

I will reply to all questions and queries posted on this thread.

I will try and include it into the Beta or first public release. Im currently working on the Alpha version for testing and all the graphics etc that will have to go with it.

Hi - Im not sure if this Idea will make sense but here goes - :

I've been thinking that when internet censorship starts to take affect, who knows which websites might be taken down.

How about some kind of web server that is based on p2p technology. Say person A has a website, they make it available for upload, a message is sent to a hub site - similar to torrent sites. Multiple client/server pcs poll the hub site for any updated websites. If an update has occured, the client/server pcs automatically upload the updated website from the source machine and share it out.

When someone wishes to browse the site, they do so with a specialised browser such as yours. This contacts the hub / lookup server which contains the details of who has the page and downloads it as if it were a p2p file share scenario.

A system could be created which catered for the hub being shut down by some how handing over the hub status to one of the other client/server pc's. Each time a user first fires up the browser, it would first try the main designated hub, if that didnt exist, then search the list uploaded from the last session. The idea is the hub being key becomes a moving target that can never be shut down.

Encryption could be built into the browser / client server to mask the traffic.

It's a bit of a blue sky idea, feel free to comment/shoot down or whatever.

PS I've got a fair bit of experience in VB6 VB.NET SQL2000 SQL2005 if I can help, let me know.

Well you have google for online searches and anything you visit can be saved to disk and then zipped, what difference would your prog make?

I'm speaking as a programmer too, I generally try to work our the need for something overall and compare it to similar programs which already exist and may or may not be able to do the job easier. Also if you choose the information to add yourself, it might be biased.

Ive been faffing around for ages trying to think of programs people would like, but most stuff exists.

So I went for something a bit different and I'm designing my own A.I with mood and needs (wants to play games, learn etc)

Thats a good approach, no point in re-inventing the wheel.
