View Full Version : Consumers: Locusts of the Apocalypse?

This morning after watching a big group tourists at an airport an idea came to me. They reminded me of something. First I thought cockroaches or ants, but both creatures have some purpose in life. Then I thought they disgusted me because they are consumers. Then it hit me, they are like locusts.
So I'm thinking the locusts in the book of Revelation might refer to consumers, not actual locusts. Consumers simply exploit and destroy without any purpose in life, excpet the one given to them by advertisements and trends.
It's been a few years since I read the book of Revelations, so I don't remember that well what it said about locusts. I think they were mentioned three times or so. But I think the parallel between locusts and consumers is accurate. Although maybe not from an entomological/zoological standpoint, but that's not what I'm getting at here.
What do you think?
Bit rich mate, lets not get carried away with idealism and labeling, we all consume there is no specific them who are "the consumers" who you can blame.

Are you refering to Ch.9 V.3 -- And out of the smoke there came forth locust upon the earth. And there was given them power as the scorpions of the earth have power. ?
Then the description of these locust carries on to v.11...(9:11!! Oh my!) Other than the appearance of these people... like a blight on the face of the earth moving in great numbers... how does this interpretation apply here?

I thought V was 5, or is that not roman numerals in the bible?

Hmmm locusts eh....
From what I can tell in Revalation 9 some angel blows a trumpet to open up the bottomless pit. This pit apparently contains some smoke, a few fires and some really powerful locusts. The locusts were horse like with human heads, womens hair, lions teeth, scorpions tails, had wings that sounded like horse pulled chariots, and wore golden crowns and iron breastplates. Oh and if they stung you it would hurt for five months.
So yeah I have to agree with the similarity to tourists and 'comsumers' in general. You wanna try going to meadowhall on the run up to xmas and you'll see the uncanny resemblance

Yeah sure I buy stuff from supermarkets and so on. But I wouldn't call myself a consumer. The term itself is very offensive. There are those who are consumers gladly and willingly.
Was I blaming anyone? I was pointing out that it's a sign of the apocalypse.
Being born into this consumerist society it's not easy getting out of it. In the current state of affairs I see only two options if you want to be 0% consumer: death or moving somewhere in the wilderness to live alone, or maybe with a small group of people. Both ideas are tempting at times, but I try to muddle through and hope consumerism will wither away with all the other filth.

I guess I was referring to locusts in general. I've heard, and correct me if I'm wrong, that locusts are first innocent little grass hoppers. Then they hear the scraping of legs of other grass hoppers, which drives them mad. Then they live as an all consuming cloud of locusts with no independent desires at all.
I remember when I was 13ish years old. A new supermarket had been opened and there were many products on sale. There were a bunch of middle-aged women fighting over some blankets or mattresses. It was so important to have the discount item.

It's not religion. It's an old book with a lot of stuff written on it. Maybe some of it was actual prophecy, instead of mind control propaganda. Nothing religious about it.
