Oh, I just LOVE this little tactic TPTB are using!
Let's see how much people will SACRIFICE themselves to "make a living" (barely make a living, mind you . . . ).
I am sure that these pay cuts would start at the top, with the CEOs! Right.
God forbid the companies should look at their total expenditures and see where they can cut the "fat" before cutting people's salaries.
Yes, and make workers feel guilty because others might lose their jobs.
Parallel with this, I was reading an article in The New York Times about what some businesses are doing to cut back and save money in these tough times. At one firm, employees traditionally had a monthly meeting with coffee and donuts. Now, they are working EXTRA HOURS (for free) in order to keep this benefit. Can you imagine! How much would the coffee and donuts cost, leveraged against hourly wages. You can talk some people into anything.
