I don't know what's with the hiding online status from others. But, I can speculate, people may not want other people on this forum to know when they are online or not. I'm sure there are some good reasons, and simply paranoia.

only on pocket money days... TA is Transactional Analysis which is the study of ego states... but I also mix that study with NLP. I may be 39 and a bit late for studying so it's more of a hobby now as it won't ever used in any professional manner due to no education... but handy for forums

OK, I will add this if it helps any (as it is only my weird belief which is in energy and my opinion)...
human instincts are often indoctrinated into believing there has to be a positive and negative in all balance of life..I don't belief this as I belief you can control all energies, but I understand it. Why is this important?
Well if I now give you a reason for hiding, say for instance I have suffered from a stalker in the past (hypothetically) and so hide so not to be followed, the equal opposing energy would be you are that stalker and don't wish to be seen. So in effect a reason cannot be given without an exact opposing one....so it's often easier to just say 'privacy reasons'.

I am not saying people are not entitled to their privacy, and knowing people are on the forum is by no means an invasion of it, no more than seeing someone at your local gym or simply walking down the street. If you do not feel comfortable knowing people are aware of your presence then I am entitled to have an interest in it. I find it interesting that, when given the choice, there are people who would choose to be undetectable. Like, if that choice were an absolute in life, then there are potentially people who would live their lives without others knowing it. The notion is strange to me so forgive my curiosity.
