i have decided to make this thread for every one to see in an attempt to show other members , especially new folks , a thread based on talents .

its not a self blowing trumpet thread , or a gloat thread .
its just a basic skills thread so that anyone can enter it and look at the skills of other users so that if they need any help they have a list of folks who they can approach .
i am hoping that others will contribute to this thread .
please keep it to the point .
no jokes or thread trashing please .

even people who think they may have no skills still have skills .
for instants . take some one who has never ever had a job and has been unemployed for over 5 years .
its a skill .
why ?
because they know a lot about the system , how it works and what to look out for . i know because I've been there my self .

so
i will start the thread with my skills and abilities .
please add to it in the intent to help others .to help others read quicker it is good to put a header note above your post like mine .
please contribute as many will be grateful for your contribution .

Some programming, PHP, MySQL, Basic (a few kinds of them visual basic being the most usefull it seem), pascal and flash. HTML as well, but not sure if that counts for much.

Being a technical supporter for an ISP I know about Internet networks and how it all works together. What services is needed to run different kinds of servers, like a mail or webserver. Also how to configure routers, firewalls and different kinds of wireless.

I know most versions of Microsoft Windows and enough about Mac OS to help with most of them. Some good knowledge about software for mostly windows but a few for Mac as well. Got a list of free anti spyware and anti virus programs memorised.

Got experience talking with people on phone, it is a callcenter I work at after all.

I also got experience with delivering newspapers. Probably doesnt count for much though.

i don't know if this counts considering so many people in this forum are geniuses in their own way but yeah, im a PR exec/copywriter. very inclined towards arts, creative thought and media relations. been considering ditching all this for a job in animal rescue and/or welfare though, i guess that's what would make me really happy in the long run.

my skills are purely social :o and i'd consider myself an empath.

My skills are languages. I know Finnish (native), English, Japanese, bit of French and Swedish, and I've studied Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese here in Hong Kong for 3-4 -months.

I've studied translation for a few years. I'd like to think I have some writing/verbal ability. I'm sort of "artistic" (not meaning gay).

my skills are purely social :o and i'd consider myself an empath.

I seem to have some social/emphatic skills too. I hope to learn to apply them for my benefit.

I'd like to think of myself as adaptable, and hope to possess skills that can not be expressed in a few words.

I think I'm useless for this society, but in a society founded on some proper values maybe I could make a contribution.

for instance... ok.... enough about me....anyone wanna try drawing a pug? I would LOVE that..... plenty of them starting on pg 24 of Pet thread in Forum Projects..... ok enough rambling...gotta take the puppies for a walk...thank you everyone!

Hi , no as yet i have not visited myself , but i have a partner who travels regularly and brings back artefacts for his antique business. Interested parties travel there with him from Dakar and he acts as a guide for the trip. My wife is Malian so we're planning to go there next year when the kids are a bit older. Hi, I'm a keen amateur gardener, have cleared unused land and started from scratch and realized how very difficult it would be to feed just one person. Only one growing season as yet but will learn this year from my many mistakes. Keen composter, worm farming, black gold!

Keep horses and hens and have kept a couple of sheep in the past.

Accredited Bowen Therapist and have studied anat and phys but mostly forgotten, but Bowen is remedial and will cure/help most bodily pains. In Australia it is taught to physios. Got own colloidal silver machine.

Micro Biologist but never been lucky enough to work in this field, or maybe I should say lucky escape, but have knowledge about virus, bacteria, fungi and yeast, well aware of microbial resistence and future problems.

Very keen artist, may start an art degree next year if possible, would love to get in to designing book covers, albumns etc.

Good cook or so I have been told.

Good for you rebel!!

I'm doing the organic gardening thing myself this year.....trying to get to a stage where we are self-sufficient with regard to vegetables and eggs. Its really tough with all that's out to get my hard work, but like you I will learn from my mistakes in these often harsh Aussie conditions.

I have started composting and I too am using black gold.....haven't thought or worm farming, but may give that a go too at some stage. To start things off I have dug in well composted organic chicken poo mixed with sawdust and organic hay. It's made a lovely loamy brew to lift the soil quality.....which was very bad at first. :( But things are coming along and the veggies I've planted have started to grow well. I'm just a bit worried because I can't seem to find any Neem oil round here to help control the pests.....I may have to purchase some online.

I guess if we can learn to do this, we can pass on our learned knowledge to anybody else who wants to have a crack at it. I'm still at the stage where I am online a fair bit looking up information myself, but sometimes the info is not helpful because pests and diseases vary from place to place and country to country, but at least there is info out there.

Good luck with your garden! :D

Neem oil ?? We have lots of neem trees here in Senegal would that be the source of neem oil ?

limelady

Neem oil ?? We have lots of neem trees here in Senegal would that be the source of neem oil ?

Yes, yes, yes bob....that's EXACTLY where Neem oil comes from. Can you grab some leaves for me, cold press them and send the oil over to me asap please? :D (kidding)

Neem grows in Africa and is widely grown and used in India......in fact Indian Ayurvedic texts speak of Neem's many amazing medicinal properties way back in 500 BC!

I've been looking round and I think I've found a source of organic Neem oil online here in Oz.....its amazing for keeping the 'chompers' off fruit trees and veggies.....the big bugs (like crickets etc) that can take out a row of lettuces over night!

If you rub a little on your skin (in India they simply rub on themselves the liquid from a Neem leaf) it will stop mozzies, ticks, fleas and sand flies from biting. It has many other well documented properties also! :)

:D Well thanks for the info Limelady , as i'm increasingly discovering there are loads of incredibly useful naturally occuring plants over here , shea nuts for example to make shea butter. Being that i'm a kindly chap , i wouldn't be averse to sending you a load of leaves as you've just given another thing we can look into for sustainable micro businesses here! We also use neem wood for djembes drums as it is a hardwood and gives a decent sound. Other woods i'm aware of here are baobab trees , lenké and khadi and dimba which we use for drums.

When I get stuck with my gardning I consult my mum, an expert, so Bob, anytime you need advise just ask. One thing learnt was never listen to know it alls who in fact know nothing. Lost about 500 tomatoes this year by not confirming the info given. Pruned them all wrong.

Limelady, what pests? In the UK we get lots of slugs, found it interesting when using slug pellets got more damage to crops, slugs seemed attracted. When not using minimal damage occured. Cabbage, protect by placing a square piece of cardboard around the seedling, stops club root. Carrots need high raised beds, stone free, apparently carrot fly remain close to the ground also need covering with net.

Just wait till you all taste homegrown carrots, wow, they do not look as regular as shop bought ones, ahh, but the taste, out of this world.

Found potatoes and courgettes the easiest to grow, courgettes planted in the horses rotted down muck heap, got so many made picallili, chutney and fed the hens.

Last year was not a gardener, now I am, just feel growing food will be so very important in coming years, no desire to eat their GM crops, that will eventualy put humans in a position of being totaly controled. This year need to learn about seeding cops for the following year and more about autumn planting for the spring crops. What we will do when crops cross contaminate no ideas, other than eat their manipulated expensive, shite (oops). Been thinking about sending a shoe full of the stuff to the puppet Bush.

If we are ever forced to live in small self sustaining groups the knowledge you learn now will see you throgh.

A suggestion would be to list essenial skills and start leaning, guys, if things go pear shaped remember we are creators and can rebuild, wiser, happier and healthier is what we shall become and anyway they may confuse us on earth but they shall never triumph as long as one person on earth knows they are eternal and has won the internal battle face on.

My only 'skill' is in the fiber arts. I knit and spin - badly and not quite often - and know not much about crochet at all, but if the apocalypse happened tomorrow, I could provide my family with socks, sweaters, etc, I think.

it's embarassing to say this, but yeah i don't know how to stitch- even a button :o well not the 'proper way' anyway, so hmm. i never had an inclination towards stitching, knitting and things of that sort.

i also forgot to mention another of my 'skills' - i'm a brown belt in kyokushinkai karate, which means i can turn a guy's balls black and blue if he ever tries to act fresh with me.

Awesome! Self defense is always handy, specially in a post- apocalypse scenario!

In all seriousness though, my knitting group is most certainly concerned about learning skills to keep on knitting if 2012 is not as pleasant as some believe it to be. There's even a link to this blog (http://redshirtknitting.com/?p=14) on the main page.

Hi all,

Im a sculptor and photographer. I have recently become obsessed with the sky and I am always looking upwards.
I walk for miles and miles each week and the forests and hills of Scotland are where I feel most at home as well as getting most of my inspiration from.
Unfortunately I live in the city at the moment, but I'm seriously considering becoming a wanderer and vagabond.
I spend a lot of time being creative and researching spirituality, through art and various practices.
I have a good knowledge of foraging and wild food.
