Just recieved this email from a friend and i was impressed by him actually forward it on to people:
I have just added a 2 new lines at the bottom:
email as follows:
Subject: INTERESTING!!
How many zeros in a billion?
A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,
but one advertising agency did a good job of
putting that figure into some perspective in
one of it's releases.
A.
A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
B.
A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.
C.
A billion hours ago our ancestors were
living in the Stone Age.
D.
A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.
....and the government is spending £500bn on a
Bail-out deal for banks. . .
And the goverment BORROWS this from the
Bank of England (PRIVATELY OWNED)
YOU PAY THE INTEREST on £500bn BY TAX!!!
I have forwarded it on to another group of sleepy friends;)

apparently there are two seperate figures which the term 'billion' has come to describe....
it should mean 1,ooo,ooo,ooo,ooo, as in a million millions.
however the media apparently uses it to refer to 1,ooo,ooo,ooo. as in a thousand million.
would help if somebody else knows for certain but i read it on here somewhere not long ago....

Yeah! that's Americanization (Americanisation) for you. this is why we need a new world order. We need to standardize (standardise) these things.

So with the Americans being wrong again (no offense)
Which of these are correct:
A Trillion = A Thousand Billion
A Trillion = A Million Billion
A Trillion = A Billion Billion
Maybe this will help

Just sent to everyone on my list, hopefully they will all do the same, and it will spread like wildfire, if all the people on this forum also do so.
This may fall on its face as the official line is the BOE is nationalized. Which it may well be, althought that is irrelevant, but it might undermine the whole waking up if people write off the concept because that fact was wrong.

Aah, you kids and your puny, insignificant, vanishingly small numbers.
Try the Superfactorial (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superfactorial#.28alternative_definition.29) of Graham's number - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia on for size, wimps.

Theres long and short scales
long scale (number names like billion, trillion, quadrillion, go up in in millions)
short scale is simpler (number names go up in 1000s)
short scale
million - 1,000,000
billion - 1,000,000,000
trillion - 1,000,000,000,000
long scale
million - 1,000,000
billion - 1,000,000,000,000
trillion - 1,000,000,000,000,000,000
so compare the two, ss trillion is ls thousand billion
i think short scales a general accepted use now

This reminds me of the old George Bush joke that I'm sure you've all heard, but in case you haven't here it is (although the punchline is a tad obvious in the light of this discussion):
Donald Rumsfeld is giving the president his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed."
"OH NO!" the President exclaims. "That's terrible!"
His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the President sits, head in hands.
Finally, the President looks up and asks, "How many is a brazillion?"
