View Full Version : Do you backup important data?
Just curious:
When I find something important on the net I download it, just in case if internet breaks down.
I also periodically create non-magnetic copies of such data (burn DVD), just in case of electric troubles.
I always print most important manuals and books, just in case if there is no electricity in the future.
So, what do you do? If you don't do something like this, why?

I have a git repository for the stuff I care about on two separate computers - a good defense against hard disk failure - not so good for fire or robbery.
Note that git is intended for software developers, it isn't something a normal people use for making backups.

What exactly is important data? It obviously varies from person to person.
For me it`s my digital camera pictures which at the minute fill up 2 DVDs and (which I should do more regularly) I clone C: with Norton Ghost.

The first info I started to back up was when Rik Clay first came on here and directed us to his blog. I immediately thought this stuff wont be on the net for long, so I printed all the Olympic ZION and X symbology stuff out.
When his blog went down, is when i started my new regime, which is to email all info i find on here, redice and alike to my un-employed friend, who then prints it all out and burns it all on DVD. Then if everything goes tits up we will have paper copies and saved DVD copies.

Strange.. I was only thinking about this earlier today..
For the last few years, I've made a scrapbook of events which chances are, we either wouldnt witness again in our lifetime, or historical events.. Main reason being if I ever have kids..
I was thinking how I now need to make a new one, with the truth in it..
And I've been shitting myself over all the music I have on here too.. so if this thread is tempting fate, im blaming you ;)
