Ministers are considering spending up to £12 billion on a database to monitor and store the internet browsing habits, e-mail and telephone records of everyone in Britain.

GCHQ, the government’s eavesdropping centre, has already been given up to £1 billion to finance the first stage of the project.

Hundreds of clandestine probes will be installed to monitor customers live on two of the country’s biggest internet and mobile phone providers - thought to be BT and Vodafone. BT has nearly 5m internet customers.

Ministers are braced for a backlash similar to the one caused by their ID cards programme. Dominic Grieve, the shadow home secretary, said: “Any suggestion of the government using existing powers to intercept communications data without public discussion is going to sound extremely sinister.”

MI5 currently conducts limited e-mail and website intercepts which are approved under specific warrants by the home secretary.

Further details of the new plan will be unveiled next month in the Queen’s speech.

The Home Office stressed no formal decision had been taken but sources said officials had made clear that ministers had agreed “in principle” to the programme.

Officials claim live monitoring is necessary to fight terrorism and crime. However, critics question whether such a vast system can be kept secure. A total of 57 billion text messages were sent in the UK last year - 1,800 every second.

just add every government minister you can to your email address book and send out mass porn... just tell them you where saving them the trouble of being sneaky by sending the information you look at direct.
Also, #(US & UK)# as there has been a credit crunch, which in effect re-starts the whole monetary system from scratch, send all your old bills to them too explaining the bail out should pay them as all old contracts are now void.

Am I being paranoid? I was on another post and clicked on a link about catholic and nazi connection and just as I did my computer gave off a single loud beep. Not done that before. I closed site and opened it again to see if it was from their website but nothing happened. I have one of those laptops with the camera and speakers on the edges. Am I being bugged? Or am I just mad? Or maybe both? You decide! :)

They want to know who you are, where you are, what you do, what you say, pretty soon it will be what you feel if they make MRI scans more accessible to the law enforcement agencies. There is a reason why they have cameras everywhere, they don't like tinted glass because they like to see faces, to identify you, you have to put personal details down for even the smallest transaction. I predict that you probably won't be able to buy a sandwich before too long without some smart card that tells them what filling you prefer.
What I would do is make bizarre phone calls, say key words but talk in gobbledygook at random. If enough people could do that, who knows, a mass random talking phone day their precious computers might just crash!

This reminds me of the copy protection on media. It doesn't affect the people it's supposed to stop at all, and it makes life difficult for everyone else.

I wouldn't mind betting that this site comes under particular scrutiny as it will be one of the first the loomies want to shut down as soon as they gain enough political clout and erosion and de-sensitisation.
