yeah, 'papua new guinea' has always been a fave of mine. brian dougans also did a techno/house track called 'humanoid' in 1988 which i loved straight away. they've definately got something special in an artistic sense.

I have a CD by them called Far Out Son of Lung, which is interesting because the Lung were the Chinese Dragon Kings. The music is pretty psychedelic. One time when I ate a dose of shroomies I laid in bed in the dark with headphones on and listened to it. It was incredible. I couldn't stop cracking up at how wild it sounded. It was quite a soundscape in the mind.

I read that their method is to rent or borrow synthesizers and sample them. Their music is entirely constructed of these instrument samples.

Yes I have heard of them. In fact, when I'm not acting like an anarchic punk bastard, I like to slip into deep, mellow relaxation listening to the likes of FSOL.

Great musaic to get 'out of it' to.

Yeah they have a band called amorpheous androgenous (sp?) or something, which is part played instruments like drums and stuff and keyboards/samples.

Lifeforms is beautiful. I have it on LP, and its sweet to candle light.

Amorphous androgynous is mind blowing organic psychedelica, in contrast to the robotic electronica fsol was. Here's an interesting story behind the change:

The story of this album started when Gaz Cobain grew a mysterious illness that took him to a long trip around the world to visit healers and ended up in an Indian village to practise yoga meditation and fasting. He discovered in Mexico that his immuned system suffered a serious degeneration due to poisoning from mercury fillings in his teeth.

Now where did we hear this mercury stuff before...

Go to their site and read the message, seriously, view the vids and pics, i guess they have awakened.

I consider that track at being pretty close to perfect! :)

I've been a fan of FSOL for quite a few years, I remember they used to put out singles that were 40 odd minutes long! 'Lifeforms' itself was released like this - it was like a whole new album! :D

That was before the ridiculous rulings disallowing EP's etc from chart placement - bastards!

Nevermind, coincidence wants that track 5 on lifeforms is a classic too (dead skin cells, cd1), remembers me to the chill out zone on mtv fourteen years ago, was a revelation to me at those times, def worth a listening...
Petty thing is the electronic music from that time like fsol, the orb, orbital, aphex twin etc... was about telling a story with sounds, while now most electronic music seem like a quick adrenaline/ endorphin fix
That's where my respect for the turning, amorphous androgynous comes from, not psychedelic as a genre/ style, but as a freedom to combine different styles/ ideas in one, as in freedom of speech, freedom of music making.
There is so much great innovating music out there that one nevers hears in the media/radio/commercial music stations.
