We need somebody who can use a camcorder, in order to film a forthcoming "Ban Mind Weapons" demonstration. We'll be picketing the Non-Lethal Weapons conference in Ettlingen, Germany, 21-23 May 2007. If the cameraperson also owns the camcorder he or she would be using, so much the better. We don't have a lot of money in the kitty.
The footage might be used by a certain TV station in the USA later in the year. It could be seen by millions of viewers. We wish to own the copyright, so that pressure cannot be brought to bear upon the cameraperson to prevent the footage being broadcast.
Details of the conference we'll be picketing are at http://www.non-lethal-weapons.com/sy04index.html .
During the next few days, Andrew Grant and myself will jointly be sending out invitations, for UK-based TIs and activists to join us in Ettlingen. We are looking into travel and accommodation arrangements before drafting the invitation email. It would be helpful if recipients didn't ask to removed from the mailing list, just because they cannot make it to Ettlingen. It would make too much extra work if everybody who couldn't consider making the trip replied to that effect, and expected to be taken off the list.
Monika is travelling to Ettlingen tomorrow (Monday), to meet the German organisers she knows, and to conduct a reconnaissance of the site - where we can stand, how many people are likely to pass by our picket line, whether we can picket lawfully sufficiently near the entrance to the building where the conference is being held, or will have to commit "civil disobedience" to get close enough, what accommodation, toilets, shelter from any rain that may fall and shopping facilities there are nearby, etc.
Please reply at once if you have the necessary camcorder skills. Otherwise, please stand by to receive the invitation email. Begin preparing your case for subsidised travel, if you would otherwise be unable to afford to attend, but please don't make that case yet. We're too busy to look at applications just yet. :-)
Plane fare is only about £30 return from Luton, according to Andrew. (We'll be checking this.) The airport for Ettlingen is Frankfurt.
