Recruitment to the Danish nazi party DNSB, that has been low in recent years, appears to be growing, according to MetroExpress.
“Over the past year we’ve been moving forward well. We have new members almost every day,” says Jonni Hansen, the party chairman.
Barbecues
His statement is backed up by the Redox research group, which studies the development of the extreme right wing.
“The Nazis are a lot stronger now than they have been for the past eight years. We haven’t seen the Funen chapter very active at all before – but it certainly is now. At the same time, the southern Jutland chapter is growing considerably. The party has become organized and has formal leaders around the country,” says Redox spokesman Jonas Jensen.
The research group says that the Nazis carry out more and more activities at which they hand out flyers, put up stickers and graffiti. At the same time, the party has more meetings, barbecue meetings and events to strengthen member unity.
600 members
In recent years, the number of Nazis was put at a few hundred. The nazi debate forum, however, has over 600 members.
Sociologist Rene Karpantschof, who studies Nazism, says that it is a myth that Nazism only appeals to low income groups.
“The movement has all sorts. And of course it also has intellectuals. Nazism is a distinctive and forceful ideology that always appeals to a broad segment,” he says.
