Has anyone stayed at Emmaus?
I stayed at emmaus a few years back in Cambridge. On the surfice it all looked good.I was homeless at the time so needed somewhere to stay.
I first went for an interview and was told when you join emmaus we all get the same amount of money which is £40 a week.I was told of jane and paul{people that run emmaus cambridge} this is so everyone is equal .It seemed really good .Jane told me the history of the emmaus and how people come who want to do something to serve their community.

Living at the emmaus was compleatly different. There is a strict no-alcohol policy. One xmas I seen one of the managers paul walking in with crate of beer .I said I thought alcohol was not allowed.I was told Its only residents that are not allowed alcohol. It appears that residents are called companians residents of emmaus where as managers are not really part of the emmaus community they just work there for 18 grand a year.

Over view of Emmaus ex homeless people do all the donkey work where as the middleclass managers etc make all the money.

Also the amount of people that are thrown out is unbelievable. One guy had been there for 7 years got caught with a couple of cans on his birthday and thrown out and discarded like rubbish.
Another guy Toby Was invited to an Emmaus fund raiser because he is a talented musician. One person donated a whole recording studio to emmaus cambridge because they were impressed with tobys musicals skills.

3weeks later toby was working in the emmaus warehouse and he borrowed a radio {there are hundreds of radios} Paul came to speak to toby about something and seen the radio. Toby apolagised for taking little radio without asking but was told to pack his bags and get out.
What I seen was more like a fascist dictatorship in the disgiuse of a helping hand.

Just thought I had to share this with you lot.

Peace:)
