Two shuttles on the launch pad at the same time. Because Atlantis (near) cannot reach the
safety of the space station if something goes wrong on its upcoming servicing mission to the
Hubble telescope, Endeavour (far) must be on standby for a rescue mission.

American space administration NASA has moved to clarify an unprecedented event that raised a few eyebrows late last week when two space shuttles were spotted being readied for takeover at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

Specifically, NASA officials have revealed that the space shuttle Endeavour is being prepped as a potential rescue vehicle in support of the upcoming space shuttle Atlantis mission, which is due to blast off this coming October to perforce maintenance of the orbiting Hubble space telescope. The symbolism is nuclear.

The orbiter is named after HM Bark Endeavour, the ship commanded by 18th century explorer James Cook

Cook born in Middlesbrough

3 October 1952 - United Kingdom successfully tests a nuclear weapon.

Exploded inside HMS Plym

Plym was built to the Royal Navy's specifications as a Group II River class frigate. She was laid down at Smiths Dock Co., South Bank-on-Tees (Middlesbrough)

Endeavour is Inspector Morse first name, played by John Thaw (Sweeney - Charles Sweeney Nagasaki pilot) who narrated The Second World War in Colour

3 October 1985 - Space Shuttle Atlantis flies its maiden voyage. (STS-51-J)

The Fat Man nuke was named after an actor in the Maltese Falcon released on 3 October 1941.

Well, it's a first for NASA, having two shuttles on the pad at once. They say it's precautionary because Atlantis will be in an orbit that makes it unable to reach the ISS if there's a problem, but I feel that there's more to this. We all know NASA's big on its symbology. The launch date is October 10th ( 10/10 ). What happened on October 10th that the Nazis at NASA might want to commemorate?

1895 - Wolfram von Richthofen, German field marshal born

1938 - The Munich Agreement cedes the Sudetenland to Nazi Germany.

1943 - Double Tenth Incident in Japanese (Nazi Germany's allies) controlled Singapore

1944 - Holocaust: 800 Gypsy children are systematically murdered at Auschwitz death camp.

1957 - Karl Genzken, Nazi physician died
