Healthy older people who take regular aspirin to prevent stroke may actually be increasing their risk. In the past 25 years the number of strokes associated with blood-thinning drugs such as aspirin or warfarin has risen seven-fold, a UK study found.

this is not news actually, I remember several years ago on the Oprah show, a doctor recommending a series of easy advise to live longer. And an aspirin a day was part of this program. I'm almost certain that he also recommended coffee due to the caffeine content. To some this may sound like a joke but he was serious about it.

it's rarely mentioned that the studies which condone that were done on men. it's actually harmful for women to take aspirin daily. i saw the test results etc in college... i dont have time to do a search on it, just thought i'd pass on that information.

Its really annoys me when research shows certain things and people beleive it! The main problem i feel is the scientists Find a breakthrough such as this and look past the side effects, t`heres good and bad in everything, it just seems that they are so excited about the good that they forget to research the bad!

Exactly how I feel matey.....I'm rarely ill.
I've always had a distrust for medicine and the industry. The only medication I take is if I've got flu and need to go to work I'll take Paracetamol.
Colds and sore throats I just leave alone to sort themselves out.
I haven't been to the dentist in years and I've got no fillings, nothing. I get the occasional sore gum but it goes away...I know if I go they'll just find something so they can charge me!

Since I've 'woken up' its just confirmed all of my long held instincts.

i wouldnt trust the bbc as a reliable source. too much asprin causes imternal bleeding. dont take anyones word for anything until you know from personal experience dor it to be true

At my work, we get free asparins :) I dont really see their purpose. As I see it, it is one of the kinds of medication made to make us feel comfortable with medication.

But the more asparin you take, the more headaches you get as I see it. Whenever you then has a headache, you will know asperin is the cure. The more asparin you take, the more headache you are likely to get, because they replace the natural ways you fight headaches. You forget how to get over a headache in the long run, and probably end up with migraine.

Now take this logic and apply it to other kinds of medication ;)

dipersable asprin is prescribed by GP's for heart problems.

i think it was in 'holographic universe' where the author says that the us studies show it helps thin the blood.
whereas in the uk where it's not adverised or promoted to do that, studies don't prove it thins the blood.
(americans believe it helps them therefore it does).

yet it is still heavily prescibed in the uk

Must remember that one. :) Fear is what allows disease a foothold in our bodies. Fear of cancer probably gives cancer the best chance of finding a place in our lives. Fear of falling off a bike is more likely to cause us to fall off it as i recall from my first childhood attempts. The stress/tension prevents us being able to realise our full potential. It blocks or traps chi that needs to flow smoothly through our bodies. We need to feel confident and relaxed to achieve our optimum levels of ability and well being.
