View Full Version : Vitamin A campaign by Health Department

Fetched my child from Nursery school today and they had
dosed all kids with 'Vitamin A'. When I see Health Dept I
don't trust them at all - now I'm freaking out about what
have they given to my child?

Does anyone know what this is? Is it really Vit. A? Sorry
If I am overeacting. But I dont trust these guys.

Dad dropped off at school and there and then signed the
consent form - we weren't given prior notice.

Is this something I should worry about? Have they given
something similar in the UK or US?

The flyer reads : National Vit A Campaign for children
1-4 years. All children must get a vitamin A Capsule at
6 months and then every 6 months until age of 59 months.

I don't recall my child even getting this at 6 months?

She was already complaining of a headache this afternoon?

Dr Mercola to the rescue .. doesn't sound like its any sinister.

Vitamin A (http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2002/01/23/vitamin-a-part-four.aspx) is a wonderful nutrient that many of us do not receive enough of. However, as I have long mentioned, it is important to supplement this vitamin with natural sources. This month's JAMA reported that synthetic vitamin A is actually associated with negative effects on bone density and can actually cause osteoporosis.

That is one of the reasons why I ask most patients to not take multiple vitamins, as many of the nutrients they contain are synthetic.

One of the best sources of vitamin A are animal products. My favorite is Carlson's Cod Liver Oil that has 2-3,000 units per teaspoon. This is a natural isomer that has not been associated with negative effects.

no haven't heard anyhting here in the uk

maybe because there is vitrtually no nutients left in dairy products anymore it's all steroids and anti-biotics

Vitamin A is a wonderful nutrient... in some cases...

What does the pill say; what form of vitamin A? And how much is the dose?

Do you have access to fresh milk or it's butterfat from a local farm by any chance? That's probably a much better way to get your vitamin A. Can you make substitutions to their supplement? Do you have access to/do you prepare liver products/meals once a week or so? Another easy was to get a good dose is just have some liver pate spread on a piece of morning toast. Serve it every other day; it also has vitamin D and B12 and iron.
