Google is 'ten' today. They conduct their 'meetings' in a 767, discuss? What is the real low down of the two people who are credited with the idea of Google? Do we know anything of their past times and interests? Of the background to them. Anyone got any websites with info from disgruntled people with an inside tale to tell?

it's nice to think they are just some computer loving geeks who want to bring the net to life while they make money from corporations. After all, they give us all the ability to "google" and we in return, give them nothing - so far, only companies who advertise are paying for google to be there, we get all the service for free. --- let's hope that stays.

then these quotes from google make you think:

"The best search engine would be your friend, with a photographic memory about you and know what you know."

"It would have access to the world of information and retrieve facts from anywhere in the context of what you know already."

plus the fact they already have our houses photographed, email open, search history recorded, and so much more. We know they want medical records and surely anything else they can get their hands on. After all their mission statement was something like "to have all data searchable".

We are soon going to reach a point with computing that computers will be more powerful that us, they call this some kind of "information even horizon" where a computer will be able to write it's own code, and we have to decide whether we let it off the reins or not. -- with google going the way they are then that is no longer our decision, it WILL happen. Technology will be pushed and pushed "for our benefit" by mans exitement to go forward and a need to see what can happen. Many will be left behind, things will go wrong. Let's hope on the whole that it is for good. - of course in a forum/world like this we are acutely aware how this power can lead to corruption. It is probably already there. Don't get taken in by the "oh it's so cool i can see my house" "oh i just google for it" -- start now and form alternatives, look to the open source community, get a Linux OS, ditch windows and do your best to ditch Google!

The whole internet is monitored.. everything on your computer can be accessed if need be.. whether you use big bad Google or something else it matters not one little iota.

Yeah been using it for a few days now and it's pretty fracking awesome.. faster than FF and opera. Hasn't got the extra tools of FF but they will come thick and fast soon enough. I'm even using it as my main browser.

I dont like it yet, its fast sure, but it lacks some features I need, 1 is opera bookmark importing and it could use some gestures or quick login (like opera wand).

It also freezes up on youtube videos somtimes and i have to close it, bit annoying. I will check back when its not beta.
