They are using links like "The Biggest Secret", "Reptilian Agenda", "Children of the Matrix" and "David Icke, son of God".
Aren't the first three Registered trademarks? Surely they aren't allowed to use David's name??
Oooh! Um, lawsuit?

Yeah, some grease-ball cashing in, but I don't think there's
probably much David can do to stop this. Besides, looked at
another way, it COULD in fact be good advertising for David's
site......especially if people google "davicicke" and its corrects
to "David Icke".
They say there's no such thing as bad publicity, and I don't
think you can copyright the words The Biggest Secret, Reptilian
Agenda etc anyway....besides they are nowadays common usage
descriptive words used by many right across the net aren't they?

Wonder if he can do something about them re: David Icke The Son of God.

I dunno. They sponsor a bunch of radical Evangelical Christian sites. The worst kind there is. I just don't think they can use David's name in any way to advance their agenda.
I guarantee you that if I set up a porn site, for example, and had Sean Hannity's name and references to his books all over it, I'd be sued in a minute. I really don't think it's legal to launch your own agenda from something like a famous person's name without their consent or endorsement.
I'm not sure if David ever registered his books' titles as trade marks, or even his name, but this just sits in my craw.
limelady
06-05-2007, 06:15 PM
Well I'll make sure Sean and David get to see this so they can
figure out what (if anything) they can do about it.
Thanks for bringing it to our attention foreverspirit! :)

Yes! Thanks foreverspirit. Good catch!
Thanks Lime. I'm interested to hear what they say. NOT that David needs another lawsuit....:(

I don't think you can blatantly use a famous person's name without their permission to further your own agenda, or to profit from.

Thats the whole point my friend.. look closely and tell me exactly how they are using his name for profit and to furthur which agenda?
Its a dead duck leave it alone
tinmenace
06-05-2007, 07:32 PM
How can you be so sure they are not profiting? How do you not know that the websites they're endorsing are not paying them?
What makes you so sure?
Did you notice that it was a corporation that registered the site?
avatar
06-05-2007, 07:38 PM
They are just dead links to Amazon and eBay nobody is making any profit

Uh, wrong. Clearly you haven't followed all the links.

Uh, yeah I have.
This sort of thing is very common and there is no legal leg to stand on that is my point, if you want to continue wasting your time with this then go ahead and knock yourself out. ;)

Is Mr. Icke Aware Of This: http://davicicke.com/.
Sites like this are very common on the web, such as:
http://www.imfowars.com/
http://www.rennse.com/
http://www.remse.com/
The pages are often virtually 100% ads (sponsored results).
tinmenace
06-05-2007, 08:23 PM
Are any of them actually using a real and famous person's actual name?
Anders Lindman
06-05-2007, 08:28 PM
No worries. This is what some shady companies do, register names that are close to popular names. So called typo-domains, then they install a script that automatically will find keywords related to the domain and put advertisement under them.
This is a huge business, and no way to stop it.
Yes very common, like http://www.micrpsoft.com/ for instance.

Another David Icke reference. Are there any others? Maybe something that uses the name of an actor, or author....maybe a rock star or something? Do any come to mind? I mean, I don't expect you to go searching, I was just wondering if you knew of any off the top of your head?

Oh yes! The Web is saturated by them, such as:

Ok, but the Ringtone link really does take you to a place where you can get real Britney Spears ringtones. The American Idol link really does provide a link to American Idol which takes you to the right site. They're providing what they say they'll provide.
The davicicke site says "David Icke Homepage" but never actually takes you there and doesn't provide a link either.
Do you see how there is a difference?

The sponsored results (ads) produced by these kinds of sites may not be entirely useless. The "David Icke Homepage" link is not linked directly to the davidicke.com but I don't think it's illegal. The link could refer to subjects related to David Icke's homepage.

Nope, it doesn't. I've checked them out. See that's where I'm having a problem with it. If it gave a legitimate link, I'd be less fervent about it...:o

At the moment the sponsored results are empty, but that's because there are no ads related to that search term available at the moment. For example, the link "NLP" produces sponsored results at the moment, while the link "Reptilian Agenda" produces no sponsored results. But if some advertiser have ads targeting the search term "reptilian agenda" then those will likely be displayed when clicking that link. The same with the search term "david icke homepage". It's all about sponsored results and their related search keywords.

oh, ok. i get it. this is a way to get google ad money.
they deliberately use a common search term that's misspelled (there's software that can tell you what's highly searched and suggest a couple of common misspellings).
every time someone clicks on one of the links, they either get paid by google or overture.
it's pretty much a dead deal. google de-listed most of these sites months ago. so, i really don't think anyone's making a whole lot of money on these sites.
it is pretty common; it's not ethical, but it's not illegal, either.

BANNED "son of the godhead" At last we finally get rid of the riff raff that has trolled this forum untouched for so long, at least until it signs up under some other name. Looks like my powers are getting stronger, I have for the last two days focused on removing this persons negative influences from this forum, and I will continue to do so to prevent any further attempts by this poster in negatively influencing this forum.
My advice to "son of the godhead" go away and play your games elsewhere.
