David McGowan is a researcher and author who has written a number of
books and articles about various aspects of the shadow government. He
is also one of the few writers who does it with style and a sense of humor.

He's written a series of articles called Inside The LC: The Strange but Mostly
True Story of Laurel Canyon and the Birth of the Hippie Generation which
covers many aspects of the 1960s-70s hippie & rock music scenes with a
healthy dose of Charlie Manson (who was closely tied to both).

The guy has a great sense of humour, despite the darkness of some of the events he describes. I like his style of writing, he covers a huge amount of information wittly and succinctly.

Awesome work, you can really feel the dissonance with responses (I've seen) to this research, by folks who were around then, and felt freed by Zappa, Morrison, Hendrix, whoever else. I'm sorry for them, but it was all a massive MKlie, sadly.

It seems clear that there was a foreseen (by TPTB) ground swell of youthful rebellion, that needed tempering, diverting, subverting, it worked.
