anyone tried this stuff? worth it or not?
for anyone who hasnt heard of it its a type of algae apparently full of many vitamins/minerals and meant to contain even more protein by weight than meat.

Just discovered this gem myself about a week back
I dont doubt for one second its on WTO's list of future controlled substances
as the claims are right in this is the healthiest food on the plantet
More 200 - 300% more protein than meat / fish and shed loads of iron, essential fatty acids and a host of other essential vitamins and minerals
The big thing with this I believe is its ease of absorbtion ino the body
Algae's cell structure has a very thin wall so it is so easy for the body to break it down - unlike meat and other foods
This algae could and should be saving millions if not billions of lives in 3rd world countries and can be grown easily in the right conditions with plenty of sunlight
But laced drugs have much more profit in them !!
Go for the dry organic powder all the way - algae is basic life form so pesticides etc would damage the important properties - and maybe even kill the stuff altogether
But beware - it tastes MINGIN but thats just my opinion - I think if you or your family are ever ill and cant eat - this stuff could save your life
My opinion - get it while you can !

which brand did you buy and where from?
while searching through google i came across this site which mentions that use of certain brands can actually be bad for you:
http://www.australianspirulina.com.au/
Taking Spirulina of poor quality or from an unknown source is an important health risk!
Are you taking Spirulina now? Are you aware of where your Spirulina come from? China ? India ? Thailand ?
Are you aware that taking low quality Spirulina may result in heavy metal deposits in your system? High volumes of heavy metals may cause serious health problems!
Most brands of Spirulina do not mention the source of Spirulina, but just simply label their product Made in Australia or New Zealand even if their product used 100% imported ingredients. For peace of mind, ask your current Spirulina vendor to provide an official certificate of origin (for imported products). If they claim Australian or New Zealand grown Spirulina, then they should have a growing License.
Only Australian Spirulina or a company that sources their Spirulina from Australia can claim they sell real Australian grown Spirulina.
Australian Spirulina has been fighting fake “Australian Made Spirulina products” for more than 5 years. Unfortunately we still cannot change the way fake products are passed off as the real thing and without your support what we can do is limited.
Please support real Aussie Made products, (not 100% imported but still claimed as Australian Made).
We Promote Product of Australia ( Grown & made entirely in Australia)

I always buy the hawaiian organic stuff from http://www.naturallygreen.co.uk/
It does taste like shit, but very good for you. Have tried mixing it with veg juice and in smoothies, but it ruins the taste if you use it in meaningful quantities. I take 1 tablespoon blended in water after cardio exercise, 1st thing in morning. You can really feel it working this way, it energises you.

No More Organic Spirulina
Since October 2005, most of ‘ Organic Spirulina ’ was from USA. Two major USA companies have both ceased production of ‘ Organic Spirulina ’, due to the USA Department of Agriculture terminating the use of a fertiliser which was orginally permitted as an organic feed for the growth of Spirulina.
Both two companies have expressed that the new regulation is not safe for production of ‘ Organic Spirulina ’ , which may have compromised the safety of their product.
Now only China, Taiwan and India are claiming their Spirulina is ‘Certified Organic’ Consumers can find these Spirulina products in the market place.
Our company Australian Spirulina has never claimed our Spirulina is ‘organically grown’ as we believe in being honest to all of our customers. Time has established what we insisted from day one, that none of the Spirulina companies can claim it’s a fully organic product, as it is not possible to produce fully organic Spirulina to a high quality.
Why can China, Taiwan, India claim organic? Do these countries have a better technique than USA or Australia? The answer of course is NO!, the difference is the certifiying system. So, if a consumer is still purchasing ‘ Certified Organic Spirulina ’ , then you are most likely choosing an inorganic source grown from China, Taiwan or India.
Since October 2005 the USA have ceased production of ‘Organic Spirulina ’, 24 months has passed and the shelf life of ‘Organic Grown Spirulina’ should have lapsed by now.
If you, the consumer wish to know where your Spirulina source is coming from, please contact your current supplier to find out more.
Spirulina products which claim ‘Made in Australia’ or ‘Made in New Zealand’ doesn’t meaning they are grown in Australia or New zealand. It only indicates the product has been packaged in Australia or New Zealand only.

Anything healthy gets banned or is never reported in mainstream media.
I read on an alternative health news website that they now want to stop selling garlic, because it should be considered medicine! Thats how good garlic is for you, and obviously the power that be dont want us to eat it, even though its cheap and sold everywhere.

Hi,
I have been taking spirulina for over a year now, I take about 2 tbsp in a pint of water in the morning for breakfast as it is quite filling and can replace at least one meal (so also great for slimming). I have found it to be amazing ! For one thing, I have had asthma since around 8 years (i am now 43) and I found since taking it my asthma has improved dramatically ! I find also if I stick to a mainly vegan diet (excluding dairy products) this also helps, but the worst thing I have found is beer, that really triggers it off !
I use organic spirulina from Hawaii and I don't mind the taste, it reminds me of chicken soup!.
So I would whole heartedly recommend this product.

Spirulina has interesting health benefits. I would need to look into it to refresh my memory. I have a book on Spirulina.
You can buy spirulina capsules, for those of you who feel too lazy to make smoothies all the time which turn the blender all green. ;)
Wheatgrass powder tastes much better- I've been having it with my meals. But I don't know whether or not it has as many health benefits as spirulina.

this was one of the foods of the incans, they ate it in great quantity. It does have great quantities of protein and omega 3 fatty acids but it does not replace meat in any way besides that. I would make sure that anything you buy is raw and has not been treated with any kind of high heat or pressure or gamma rays etc...
(raw foods can be dehydrated and still be raw)

so i just mix it with water and drink it ?
Why dont people just get a mini blender, add water, spirulina, and blueberries or something ? i doubt i could stomach just water and spirulina.

you could blend it with just about anything but simply mixing it with water is fine it doesnt taste that bad you get used to it after awhile.

I've been having a glass of spirulina every morning for the past 3 years and it's the best health decision I've made to be honest...
It's the perfect 'first thing to have' for the day, gives you everything you need, is extremely easy to digest (making it even better for the young and old)..I would definitely recommend finding a good fruit juice to mix it with, it tastes like seaweed as it is an underwater plant and I still find it tough to drink only with water
full of nutrients/vitamins, great for your eyes and skin, protein, iron and good fatty acids. Sounds almost like hemp seeds/hemp seed oil (which I also try to eat as often as possible)
just make sure you wipe your mouth after a drink in the morning or you'll have a green mustache for the day (it's happened to me once or twice...) :D
and the spiral shape just looks cool up close!
