what about emotional or physical effects? i'm really just curious if it works and is worth it if i dedicate a lot of time to it?
i often see flowers when i meditate as well. bright fields of flowers. i always wonder why im seeing them since i don't often see flowers.

emotionally i felt a extreme calm & fullness! i cant explain the physical to much because i cant put it in words... it felt as if i was here but not here, if that makes any sense
it is well worth it!!! just take a least 5-10min a day to just sit and relax with no interuptions!

this is a form of Kundalini Yoga that i learnt about while i was in India about a year ago:
http://sahajayoga.org/
it was my first real experience with meditation, and was really an incredible experience. i still use the technique to this day. its great for a kind of 'energy-detox' if you will

Thanks for the link. I tried it and was skeptical but I can't deny it made my mind empty and peaceful. I also felt a lot of cool air coming from the top of my head. I'm getting excited about trying out other exercises.

A martial arts student approached his teacher with a question. "I'd like to improve my knowledge of the martial arts. In addition to learning from you, I'd like to study with another teacher in order to learn another style. What do you think of this idea?" "The hunter who chases two rabbits," answered the master, "catches neither one.

From my own experiences I believe one of the most important things for an individual to go through on their path towards enlightenment is the activation of the kundalini.
As is often said there are many paths to enlightenment - just choose one. I`ve been practicing kriya yoga for some time and have found it very beneficial. Practicing kriya means opening up the kundalini gradually and regulating it`s flow. Yogi`s have referred to it as "the airplane to enlightenment."
A book I would advise anyone to read is "Autobiography of a Yogi" by Paramahansa Yogananda. It is available entirely to read on the net. Chapter 26 gives a good outline of kriya yoga -

swami satyananda of the bihar school of yoga has wrote some great books on kundalini yoga.If your up for some serious self discipline im sure it will be a positive experience nearly all the old texts that mention the kundalini really hammer home a lot of precautions celibacy strict diet etc.....ive also heard it can send you quite insane though if not approached cautiously and slowly

Yep, you are a undercover New Age Guru! No one Zen would promote Yoga, as Yoga is nothing more than body exercises, just like aerobics or soccer, it has nothing to do with spiritual truth. Infact this topic shouldnt be in the Meditation/Human Consciousness thread. What a shame!

What an extremely poor statement from you ichi wa zen. I`m surprised a zen student would show that level of ignorance. ;)
As they say you didn`t just fall into the hole, you jumped into it :) You speak of hatha yoga, which uses specific physical exercises to enhance physical strength and well being!
Yoga means - union with the infinite! Kriya yoga is one of the highest forms of zen meditation in existence. I advise you to read "Autobiography of a Yogi" if you want to know more. Haha ............. and I advise you to know more and talk less, regarding what you know little about.
Namaste.

Yes Yogi's. Sweet Yogi's. One can walk on fire, the other can stand still one 1 toe for 9817 hours without having a drink. The other will be able to dive under water for 60 minutes without taking a single breath.
Very impressive stuff. Yogi's i salute thee.
Still, useless stuff if one is not master of self!
Yoga has nothing to do with Zen. Zen is Chinese. Yoga is Indian. In Yoga there is body and mind. In Zen those are left behind!

Ichi wa zen do you honestly believe there is no link between the ancient Chinese and Indian mystics?
Alan Watts who has contributed much to Zen Buddhism in the West stated, "The origins of Zen are as much Taoist as Buddhist."
Bodhidharma (the Indian YOGI MONK) is accredited with bringing Zen to China (and also Qi Gong).
"From the Chinese Imperial records of the time it is clearly recorded that Bodhidharma arrived and had an audience with Emperor Liang Wu Di. Official monastery history shows that since 527 Bodhidharma taught Zen at the famous Shaolin Monastery......... The are no records whatsoever to show Zen Buddhism existed in China before Bodhidharmas arrival." These are the words of CHINESE Shaolin Grandmaster Wong, Kiew Kit. Wong also stated most Chinese Zen masters acknowledge the Indian origin and trace it`s source to Gautama Buddha.
Kriya Yoga is breath mastery. Through mastering the breath one masters the self by activating and drawing on the kundalini fire (gradually at first) identifying with no mind. Some of the greatest spiritual masters to come from India were Kriyabans - Parahmahansa Yogananda, Sri Yukteswar, Lahiri Mahasaya, Hariharinanda to name but a few. Kriya Yoga is one of the highest forms of Zen in existence, whether you know/accept it or not.
"Autobiography of a Yogi," written by Paramahamsa Yogananda is regarded as one of the greatest spiritual classics of the 20th century.

Yoga has been a practice of Buddhism for thousands of years. Zen is the combination of chinese Taoism and Buddhism introduced by Bodhidharma. That this is even being argued is beyond any sense of reason.

Nice preaching Ichi Wa Zen, but control and right use of the body is the first step towards spirituality actually.
Yoga may not be directly spiritual, but indirectly.

"Tibet did not receive the true teaching of Buddhism but the corrupted version! The corrupted version of Buddhism was created by the brahmins of India. They didnt like the Buddhas teaching of everyone being equal.
The teachings as taught by The Buddha are now in Japan. The Buddha passed his teachings on to the following people. This lineage goes up to the year 1451. I dont have the rest.
The Indian Ancestors:
1. The Great Monk Makakashō
2. The Great Monk Ananda
3. The Great Monk Shōnawashu
4. The Great Monk Ubakikuta
5. The Great Monk Daitaka
6. The Great Monk Mishaka
7. The Great Monk Bashumitsu
8. The Great Monk Butsudanandai
9. The Great Monk Fudamitta
10. The Great Monk Barishiba
11. The Great Monk Funayasha
12. The Great Monk Ashvaghoća
13. The Great Monk Kabimora
14. The Great Monk Nāgārjuna also called Lung-shu,
Lung-sheng, or Lung-meng
15. The Great Monk Kanadaiba
16. The Great Monk Ragorata
17. The Great Monk Sōgyanandai
18. The Great Monk Kayashata
19. The Great Monk Kumorata
20. The Great Monk Shayata
21. The Great Monk Vasubandhu
22. The Great Monk Manura
23. The Great Monk Kakurokuna
24. The Great Monk Shishibodai
25. The Great Monk Bashashita
26. The Great Monk Funyomitta
27. The Great Monk Hannyatara
28. The Great Monk Bodhidharma
The Chinese Ancestors:
The Great Monk Eka
The Great Monk Kanchi Sōsan
The Great Monk Daii Dōshin
The Great Monk Daiman Kōnin
The Great Monk Daikan Enō
The Great Monk Seigen Gyōshi
The Great Monk Dogen Zenji
As you can see, no teachings of Buddha were passed on to Tibet. China and Japan received these and this is where they still are!"
India also has become corrupt. The brahmins destroyed/altered the original teachings as taught by Buddha.

I`d say the Shaolin might disagree with you there ichi wa - The one true buddhism sounds like it`s too close to religious dogma for me.
They take Bodhidharma to be the First Patriarch regarding zen.

Buddha is the first. Then the teachings were passed on, they were only transmitted orally to 1 person who then did the same. They say this lineage still exists today.
Bodhidharma was indeed the person to bring these teachings to the East.
Sorry about going offtopic.
