The digg website have been caught censoring and deleting dozens of entries on its website in regards to the 09:F9:11:02:9D:74:E3:5B:D8:41:56:C5:63:56:88:C0 hex key used to hack HD-DVDs.
The fact that HD-DVD is a primary sponsor of digg.com has nothing to do with it of course. Now people are swamping the site with repeat posts as they get deleted causing digg a huge headache.
Head to http://digg.com/ to see all the fun.

What does the key do?
I visited digg and there was two stories about the key, and when I reloaded the page there was only one story. Are people at digg removing these stories manually?

Yep they are deleting them every minute but more keep coming the RSS feed is all over the place.
You need to look a little closer mate every story on the front page is about it.

lol. What a mess. I was wondering, isn't HD-DVD is competing with Blue-ray? This could be a clever viral marketing stunt from the HD-DVD companies.

The key works on both so I think they must be the same thing. It allows you to copy and pirate HD-DVDs and Blu Ray discs.

That's the so-called "Processing Key" that unlocks the heart of every HD-DVD disk to date. Happy Valentine's day, AACS.
AACS, a DRM scheme used to encrypt data on HD-DVD and Blu-Ray disks, would appear to be cracked wide open by that short string of hexadecimal codes, as previously, only disk-specific Volume Keys were compromised. The new hack is the work of Arnezami, a hacker posting at the doom9 forums, fast becoming the front line in the war on DRM.

Today was an insane day. And as the founder of Digg, I just wanted to post my thoughts…
In building and shaping the site I’ve always tried to stay as hands on as possible. We’ve always given site moderation (digging/burying) power to the community. Occasionally we step in to remove stories that violate our terms of use (eg. linking to pornography, illegal downloads, racial hate sites, etc.). So today was a difficult day for us. We had to decide whether to remove stories containing a single code based on a cease and desist declaration. We had to make a call, and in our desire to avoid a scenario where Digg would be interrupted or shut down, we decided to comply and remove the stories with the code.
But now, after seeing hundreds of stories and reading thousands of comments, you’ve made it clear. You’d rather see Digg go down fighting than bow down to a bigger company. We hear you, and effective immediately we won’t delete stories or comments containing the code and will deal with whatever the consequences might be.
If we lose, then what the hell, at least we died trying.
Digg on,
Kevin
OK that settles it time to move on now.. but not before I sneak these little buggers in :D
