Since D.I is unashamedly a sports fan all his life and with the Olympics in full swing I decided to open a thread on great sporting moments and the sporting legends who`ve inspired many of us down through the years.
I`ll start the ball rolling with "that" try from The Baa Baa`s against New Zealand back in the early 1970`s. A blitzing run involving backs and forwards from these islands, creating a moment of rugby magic.
Even though I don`t support Man U and he was before my time, George Best was someone much loved all over Ireland. He was a man who, through sport, brought diverse communities together (in his own Northern Ireland especially) and showed that people can get on no matter the circumstances.
PS - Note the number 33 on Bests tracksuit in the days long before squad numbers. I wonder which mason at Utd gave him that to wear lol?

Similar to what Edmundo did against Man U in the World Club Finals a few years ago. (Edmundo used the outside of the right boot though). Bergkamps looks to be tecnically a better goal.

Yeah Tardelli was a great captain for Italy - he`s currently our national teams assistant caoch to Trappatoni. Two great coaches but I`m afraid our resources are quite poor at the moment, would be a huge achievement if they get us to the World Cup.

Great fight krakhead, saw it all on video some years ago - Foreman was the hot favourite at the time but Ali backed up all his talk. I read he was peeing blood for two days after, his kidneys took such a pounding. A true warrior!

Two of the greatest middle distance runners of any era - Coe and Ovett were great competitors who pushed each other to the limit. I have alot of respect for Ovett particularly as he travelled to Cork many times over the years to run for charity. Some of the top Irish runners at the time were charging appearance fees but Ovett never asked for a penny, top bloke!

As a "mick" I was very tempted to put up the St. Petersburg goals in the final as the highlight of the season :D.
Only joking dmt head, Rangers did fantastic to make the final. It might surprise you how many Irish Celtic supporters were rooting for Rangers in the final (but would never admit it lol).
Damn Celts - if we`re not fighting with everyone else we`re fighting among ourselves :D. The Illuminati must be well proud of the divides they`ve created through sport among many other things!

anyone remember this one
Michael Thomas charging through the midfield,it's up for grabs now gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooal,a title won in a fashion no-one will ever better,To beat Liverpool 2-0 in their own backyard[when they were good] on the last day of the season to win the league.Still brings a tear to my eye. They went and bought thomas next season and made him sit on the bench for the rest of his career as punishment.

having spent more time at ibrox then i have at parkhead, i have to admire the lions of lisbon for what seems now unthinkable, the fact that the majority of their team were born in a 30 miles radius of glasgow.
wish modern football was similar, some rule like 5 of your players had to come from the town the the team represents
