I used to buy non-fluoridated toothpaste online... but they stopped selling it about five years ago- no agenda, eh?
It's very difficult to come by, unless you want to pay extortionate prices. That's my experience anyway...

I remember an episode of that classic show "Till Death Us Do Part" where Alf Garnett said he brushed his teeth with coal dust and salt and called toothpaste muck ;) A few minutes later he shouted through the wall to his neighbour "shut up you old ratbag!!" :D

We use a fluoride free toothpaste called Dr Kens -- it's wintergreen gel, and tastes great. "Toms" is great, but tastes awful! :p They have a few different kinds in my local grocer's "organic" section.

I have been using a floride toothpaste for just over a year...... unfortunately it doesnt help with receding gums which has been occuring to me .... with the possiblity of root canals to fix the problem I stumbled accross a product called ORAMD.... it is all natural oils .... I have been using it since May and have seen astonding results.... I stopped using all toothpaste back in May and just brush with this oil.
The following is taken from the site ...

Natural Gum Disease and
Chronic Bad Breath Solution
A natural treatment for gum disease and bad breath is highly sought after. OraMDŽ is the first all natural, highly effective dental care product created for total teeth and gum health, as well as overall dental hygiene.
Everyone is looking for the symptom, cure, and treatment for gum disease, gingivitis, bleeding gums and bad breath because no one wants to loose their teeth. OraMDŽ tackles the problems associated with periodontal disease, gingivitis and receding gums and is also an extremely effective chronic bad breath product. Because the ingredients are natural enemies of bacteria, OraMDŽ cleans your mouth and stops halitosis ( bad breath ) in it's tracks.

It's still bad though. The base ingredient --the past-- is poison. Look at the warning label to any "natural" toothpaste, and it will tell you to rush to a poison control clinic if ingested. And if you don't think it's harming you because you're not swallowing it, think again. That's how you get high on LSD. You take a 3mmx3mm flat paper cube which has lsd on it, and you stick it under the tongue for 15-30 minutes. It goes right into the blood stream.
What I want to know is how the Asian Indians brush their teeth. I was watching this Indian movie called Pather Panchali, and the boy was burshing his teeth with his finger and some like... I don't know, herb or berry or some shit. I want to know how humans brushed their teeth before poison toothpaste was invented.

I imagine you meant flouride-free in your above post, since why would flouride help against receading gum lines? If anything, it helps cause it.
Personally, I think there may be a link between certain flouride-free toothpastes and receading gum line. It may also have to do with not eating meat.

Owned by colgate or some mainstream brand now. Supposedly they changed the standards, and now they are really low. Sorry, no specifics, that's just what I recally reading.

Some people brush with baking soda, but I tried that and it freeking hurts the gums bad. I was theorizing that maybe it has to do with the gums adapting to the poison toothpaste that you put in your mouth twice a day. Maybe it's DEPENDANT on it, ya know? And any deviation results in pain.

"Well, I would say that each civilization had their own way of taking care of their teeth. For example, the egyptians used camel hair. The Native Americans rubbed a paste made from the cucacua plant on their teeth. Our ancient ancestors, the Neanderthal are thought to have used the birch of the Cloya tree. Peasants in the middle ages had the worst hygeine in history. It was almost unheard of for one to have a full set of teeth by his or her 18th birthday. There is a very concise history of tooth care throughout history at www.dentistryinhistory.com . You ought to check it out."

I just tried baking soda + finger. I'm surprised how quickly it gets rid of plaque. It gets the teeth squeeky in seconds. I will post an update to see if it's bearable...

Here's a great recipe for making your own. All you need is glycerine, baking soda, and salt. Sounds like the best bet if you must have a paste.

Actually, I just checked my trader joe's brand paste, and it's pretty good:
Calcium carbonate, water, glycerin, xylitol, sodium cocoyl glutamate, foeniculum vulgare (fennel) oil, cammiphora myrrha (myrrh) resin, hydrated silica, chondrus crispus (carrageenan), propolis wax, mentha peperita (peppermint) oil.
But the tom's stuff, I need to check ingredients, because I recall having issues with the no-flouride stuff. It was causing my teeth to bleed.
