Looking within government, religion, economics and that whole way of life for security seems a logical thing to do. Even if they know it to be false, at least it be security in falsehood. That was its intention. So how do you make it NOT logical to the people who do? A negative of what they follow will not work, you have to give a positive alternative.

Security is not a shade of grays. Either you have security or you don't. There is no middle-fiddle option. The elite may claim that they have increased the security for preventing a terrorist event to happen from say 80% to 90% but it's all bollox. If you don't have 100% security you're a neurotic moron. :D
