Dark chocolate is more wholesome

Skip the Milk Chocolate, Dark Is Better for YouIf you favor those milk chocolate bon-bons over the dark variety, you might be better off switching. Eating dark chocolate -- but not milk chocolate -- raises levels of antioxidant (http://www.lookchem.com/cas-74/74-31-7.html)
in the blood, which could help protect against heart disease.Researchers found that the rise in antioxidant levels is much lower when milk chocolate is eaten or when dark chocolate is eaten along with milk. Although the exact reason is unclear, it may be that milk interferes with the absorption of antioxidants from chocolate. The findings, reported in scientific journal Nature, come from a study of 12 healthy volunteers who, on different days, ate 100 grams of dark chocolate alone, 100 grams of dark chocolate with milk, or 200 grams of milk chocolate.Blood analysis one-hour after dark chocolate was eaten showed a significant rise in antioxidant levels, including levels of epicatechin, a well-known dietary flavonoid, report Dr. Mauro Serafini, from the National Institute for Food and Nutrition Research in Rome, and associates. In contrast, not much change in antioxidant levels was seen after eating of milk chocolate or dark chocolate with milk. Moreover, epicatechin absorption into the bloodstream was much lower than when dark chocolate was eaten alone. The researchers say their findings highlight the possibility that other items in the diet could reduce the antioxidant activity of flavonoids in the body."There is therefore a need to take into account dietary habits when designing studies to assess the association between flavonoid-rich foods, antioxidant activity and degenerative disease," they add.

Chocolate is an addictive product which is loved by many. -Of course there are going to be many articles about how great or bad it is!

You love it, so do you want to know the ugly side of chocolate? If so continue...

Buying chocolate most likely supports brutal slavery. Chocolate contains a lot of toxic heavy metals that can cause brain disease. Because of the arginine to lysine ratio, chocolate can cause herpes outbreaks or prolong them. People should avoid chocolate if they get kidney stones. Chocolate can cause migraines (not caffeine related).

I agree. It's highly addictive and ofcourse the media plays into it, because it makes you ''happy''.

Don't become dependant on such stimulative addictions.

There is only one good kind of chocolate, and that is raw. Absolutely delicious home made, with cacao, macca, gogi berries and other energy giving goodies :-D

No it is not evil. The fact that it is stimulative and addictive will do you no good. You are free however, to do as you please.

Jeez, I love chocolate! but I very rarely buy from the shops. I get a box of choccies sent through the post every month from the chocolate tasting club

http://www.chocs.co.uk/Our-Mission-Aexplore_a/

Yes, its a little indulgent of me but I dont smoke and drink only a couple of times a yr so its my little vice and treat. The club only uses cocoa beans thats have been ethically grown (we get a news letter with the box and they do a report each month on the various coca plantations and the farmers who own them) and the chocolates are made by small scale chocolateers without artificial colouring/ preservatives. Many chocs are low in sugar also as this can really spoil the taste of the cocoa.

I love real chocolate but find conventional chocololat disgusting. Far too much sugar and additives in it. Dark chocolate sometimes can be quite an energy booster. A few month ago I switched from eating bread in the moring to rolled oats with banana and real cocoa which gives me much more power for the day than bread.

So I assume you have a completely sugar free diet. And did you know watching television produces chemicals in your brain similar to what narcotic addicts experience? And don't get on that computer too much. Don't use microwaves, ever. No tea, because even though there are health benefits, it's got caffeine.

I try to be healthy, but I'm not going to go to extremes.

No I don't have a complete sugar free diet. I'm just pointing out the bad things about chocolate. You're correct about computer, microwaves, tea etc.
Maybe you are addict, denial is the first proof. :D

Well, I'm a vegan so any chocolate I have comes without milk, but as far as the heavy metals and poor working conditions etc. I have more to learn... thanks. ;)
