Hi there,

I have searched the forum for info on this but have not found anything!

If anyone knows if there is a thread about it, could you direct me please?

If there isn’t, my question is this……

Why is it when you go on a flight, sometimes they spray the cabin with what they say is insecticide – according to British law (? WTF ?) and sometimes they don’t?

Does anyone know what is in this spray and what it is all about?

I have experianced this reciently, sometimes being sprayed other times not, and both times going to and from the same place!

pretty sure its only if you make a stop for refuelling.

Nah.... We didn't stop.... it was a direct flight. both times.....

It's just that since I have been back I have had a chest infection that is getting worse as time goes on, and I wondered if it had anything to do with the spray?

Hi there....

Since writing the above, I have been into a couple of travel agents, and asked them about the spraying.....

One told me that they had never heard of the cabins being sprayed..... and 'they' had been to the same places I had been!

The other one said that they had no idea what the spray contained, and didn't have a clue who I could contact to find out! She said to me "go ask the people/company you travelled with" I kindly explained to her that I was, it was her company lol.... but she still couldn't help me.....

Anyone have any idea's about this?

Originally it was a WHO (World Health Organization) directive for planes flying to and from certain destinations, to spray cabins with insecticides. Countrys like New Zealand and Australia being particularly nervous of the risk of planes importing insects that can damage crops, and also spread diseases like Dengue Fever, etc. That's one of the reasons why when you fly to NZ or Aus you can't take any fruit out of the plane into the country once you land, because they fear contamination of local crop. Long term cabin crew are complaining as of late though, that they have been developing lung problems related to repeated exposure to this stuff. People are supposed to completely cover their airways and eyes for about ten minutes (this is the problem, most people think it's ok after a minute or two) once they spray through the cabin anyway. But cabin air being cabin air recycling around and around, it may linger.

Flying unfortunately puts you in contact with seriously dodgy air anyway if its a long flight. :o
