Blue Angels jet crashes during air show, killing aviator


(CNN) -- A jet flying in formation with the U.S. Navy Blue Angels precision flying team crashed into a Beaufort, South Carolina, neighborhood, causing an "enormous fireball" during an air show, authorities said.

The Navy aviator was killed, Beaufort County Coroner Curt Copeland said. The F/A-18's pilot is the only known fatality. The aviator's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Officials announced that Sunday's scheduled air show will go on but that the Blue Angels will not take part.

Ok, what's up with this? I saw some footage on the TV and the airport is shaped like a cross. Please tell me this isn't yet another sacrifice?

maybe, it doesnt help that the pilots don't wear Gsuits, Ive seen the Red Arrows up close all the time near me... they are around on a regular basis where I live .

I would want a g suit with those forces, but the cockpit is so small there is no room really to use one effectively in that plane.

the blue angels are navy, not air force, and it is policy that when ever a service members dies, the name is not supposed to be released until the next of kin is notified first, called respect for the family, and in doing so they have to find his next of kin whether wife or mother and have a high ranking official of the navy whoever that may be make physical contact with that person. so it has nothing to do with a cover-up why his name isn't released yet. how it happen though very well could be anything.

The airshow at Beaufort was the 9th show out of 66 this year scheduled by the Blue Angels. The previous show was at Corpus Christi, 6 days earlier. An angel crashing over the cross runway 6 days after the Corpus Christi show.
Very interesting.

In 1947 they introduced there ( apparently ) famous Diamond Formation.

By the late 1940s they were flying the Panther.

In 1950, during the Korean conflict they became part of the Satans Kitten squadron.
