MOSCOW, Apri 21 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Space Agency is ready to send Russia's richest man, London-based Roman Abramovich, on a flight around the Moon for $300 million after 2010.

"Some press reports have said Roman Abramovich has submitted his candidacy for flying around the Moon for $300 million," Anatoly Perminov, head of the agency, said. "The figure is attractive, and ... we will consider the proposal after 2010."

Perminov said until 2009 all space tourist flights had been signed up.

The Russian Space Agency (RKA) was formed after the breakup of the former Soviet Union and the dissolution of the Soviet space program. The RKA uses the technology and launch sites that belonged to the former Soviet space program. Currently, the RKA has centralized control of Russia's civilian space program, including all manned and unmanned nonmilitary space flights.

Programs

The highest profile program that the RKA is currently flying is the MIR Space Station. You can see where the MIR is now with Liftoff's Spacecraft Tracking System, or our current MIR location page. In addition, the Russian Space Agency is one of our Partners in the International Space Station program. A past program that was pursued by the former Soviet space agency was the shuttle Buran program. The Soviet space program was also the first nation to launch a satellite into orbit (Sputnik I) and competed against the United States in the race to the moon.

Administration

The RKA is headed by Yuri Koptev (pictured, top left), whose duties roughly parallel that of the NASA Administrator. The RKA employs about 300 people, as much of the work is contracted out. The prime contractor used by the RKA is the Energiya Rocket and Space Complex, which owns and operates the Mission Control Center in Kaliningrad and operates the Mir space station. Energiya developed the powerful Energiya booster which is a heavy launch vehicle and was used to propel the shuttle Buran into space.

Launch Control

The military counterpart of the RKA is the Military Space Forces (VKS). The VKS controls Russia's Plesetsk Cosmodrome launch facility. The RKA and VKS share control of the Baikonur Cosmodrome, where the RKA reimburses the VKS for the wages of many of the flight controllers during civilian launches. The RKA and VKS also share control of the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center.

Roman Arkadievich Abramovich

Born October 24, 1966 (1966-10-24) (age 40)
Saratov, Russia
Occupation Governor, Oil Billionaire, Owner Chelsea Football Club
Spouse Irina Abramovich (divorced)

Roman Arkadievich Abramovich (Russian: Рома́н Арка́дьевич Абрамо́вич) (born 24 October 1966 in Saratov, Russia) is a Russian oil billionaire and the main owner of private investment company Millhouse Capital, referred to as one of the Russian oligarchs. According to 2006 Forbes Magazine, he has a net worth of $18.2 billion [1] (according to Russian Finance magazine of January 2007 his fortune is $21.0 billions.

In June 2003 he became the owner of the companies that control Chelsea Football Club in the United Kingdom. He had, apparently, investigated the possibility of purchasing several other clubs before deciding on Chelsea, who were financially vulnerable at the time.

The deal immediately raised his profile in Britain where the tabloids noted the Russian connection by humorously dubbing the club Chelski. As soon as Abramovich took control, he poured massive investment into the club (estimated at £440 million to January 2006), assuming the £80m debt burden and immediately making available substantial transfer funds. The club also embarked on an ambitious programme of commercial development, with the aim of making it a worldwide brand.

The result was near-instant success: Chelsea finished their first season after the takeover in 2nd place in the Premiership (from 4th the previous year). The following season they moved into first place and also reached the semi-finals of the Champions League. They are now one of the dominant forces in English football. It is argued that Abramovich's involvement with Chelsea has distorted the football transfer market throughout Europe[citation needed], as his wealth often allows the club to purchase players virtually at will (frequently at inflated prices), without regard for the effects on the club's financial outturn. The spending has, to some extent, seen wealth re-distributed throughout the game, with the combined fee of £12.5m paid to West Ham United for Glen Johnson and Joe Cole helping to avert administration. In the year ending June 2005, Chelsea posted record losses of £140 million and the club is not expected to record a trading profit before 2010, though this did decrease to reported losses of £80.2 million year ending June 2006.

Abramovich has huge ambitions for Chelsea, which are matched by his spending. However, in a recent interview he stated that he expects Chelsea's transfer spending to fall in years to come.[11] Recently, Chief Executive Peter Kenyon stated that he believes that Chelsea will be recognised as the biggest team in the world by 2014.

Ide love to have a conspiracy based opinion on this

But being a man City fan i cant
Our best player Shaun Wright Phillips was stolen for 22 million quid and has hardley been used at Chelsea

He also would have been great in the world cup but "they" decided to take Theo Walcott instead

What were they thinking

Oh well putting the football differences to the side ,i think that Man United are gonna do it

sob That hurts.

It's not true.

The USA has spent tons of money to destroy Soviet and then Russian space industry.

In fact one of the main goals of the so-called Perestroika was to cripple the space programs of the USSR in order to have total domination in space.

The US hates to see Russia's rebirth and success in space.

We are on different planets, you and I, as far as our perception of the world around us is concerned. I don't want to argue with you, but I stand by my statement.

The money helped you and for once in a Blue Moon, you're moving forward. I like Pearce. Stick by him.

He also would have been great in the world cup but "they" decided to take Theo Walcott instead

What were they thinking

Idiots. They could have taken Fowler, what with the way Sven played the game, an all.

Secret footage from the England camp..

I hope Roma goes around the moon live on TV.
